spreads, tell me more!

Hi, yesterday i gave a reading to a fellow witch and he told me that when he uses the cross he gives different possitions and meanings.
This is how i do it:

1-inner self, 2-outer self, the wy others see him/her, 3-present, 4-past, 5-near or possible future, 6 the definite future, 7 answer to a question if there is one to beginn with!

note: i also open 3 cards when i ask a question!

I assume you are referring to the celtic cross? If so that it really odd but cool

In any case I pretty much do it the traditional way:

1) the base - but i never really understood what to call this, although im starting to lean to what you are calling the inner self.
2) the bridge - challenges one must conqure or present situations one is going through
3) heaven - the general karmic energy influencing the person
4) earth - what this (heaven) translates to in a person's life
5) past - anything the person needs to let go of or something they just delt with
6) future - any challenges or things they need to imbrace for the future.
7) oneself - how a person is viewing themself at the present moment, or their motives
8) environment - the surrounding environment influencing the individual
9) hopes/fears
10) the outcome or final message - if negetive it is a warning to head the advice of the cards, or sometimes it's a clue to look for something.

Oh and I ask for clarification of cetain cards or situations sometimes by drawing 3 cards. And I'm also beginning to ask if I've read the spread correctly or if their is anything I missed by drawing 3 cards.

when there is a card that i cannot understan i place it down, shuffle and open two cards on each side to help me see the meaning perhaps in another way.
it helps a lot.

do you know of other spreads?
i have heard of 12 card spreads, 9 card etc etc
