Pendulums

Post by Azura »

I went to a shop where they sell crystals and pendulums and such, and the lady that worked there said that picking the right pendulum for yourself was very important. When I used my pendulum at home I couldnt get a clearly distinct motion for "yes", "no", and "I don't know"; which the lady said you should get a different swing of the pendulum for each, so when you ask questions you will know what the divine source is telling you.. =&... But I don't know what was wrong,.. could I have chose the wrong pendulum or something,.. ? Or can I get the pendulum to work for me..? If so, how would I do so...? ... =&

A pendulum swings to answer the person who is doing a reading...and what you believe or interpret a response to mean is more important than what it is made of...but it would be wise to pick a pendulum that feels right to you.

I can remember a time when people used to shake their head left/right to give a silent "no" answer to someone and by this custom avoid unpleasant confrontation. Of course, a silent "yes" answer was given by lowering their chin and then raising up the head again...repeated about 3 times for a definite yes answer. So, in decades past, traditional yes/no answers were similar in readings and pendulum charts set up for vertical yes, horizontal no responses. But you may have both in a reading also...such as a clockwise or counterclockwise rotations before it gives a vertical swing for yes or horizontal swings for no. The rotation first could mean that you don't know the answer yet (perhaps for clockwise). If you get an answer then ask more question about it, a counterclockwise rotation would come before each additional question. Decide what all movements mean to you and work out a system of interpretation.

In modern times, many pagans feel clockwise/counterclockwise movements are more appropriate now and that is why a pendulum often uses such movements to give an answer. :D For gemstones, a nice crystal pendulum with a silver chain...pick a stone of an element you are close to...Quartz crystals of any color are great.

Got my first pendulum a couple of weeks ago and it seems to be working. I was following these instructions to program it, which I found on the internet:

'The first step is to get the feel of the pendulum and how it will move for you.

Pendulums movements:

- straight line - side to side or front and back
- circles - clockwise or counterclockwise
- elliptical motion
- some pendulums bob up and down to indicate strong action, usually affirmative

Most questions asked when using a pendulum have Yes or No answers. You must determine the direction your pendulum will take for Yes and for No.

Hold the pendulum in your hand. With the other hand - touch the point/bobber to steady its motion.

Keep your eyes on the point.

Now address the pendulum and say, "Show me 'Yes'." It will soon swing in one direction, which could be side to side, back and forth, or circles.

Now say, "Show me No." It should swing in the opposite direction.

Be certain the pendulum is not being guided by the movement of your hand or fingers.

Once you have determine the pattern for Yes and No - you are ready to begin.

There are times that the answer is unknown - or the spirit needs more information. At that time - the pendulum will generally swing diagonally or not at all.

The faster the movement - the stronger the energies.

Sometimes a pendulum will appear to bob or dance up and down. This is usually an affirmative response. the point is sometimes called a bobber.

There are generally no rituals involve with pendulum use, though some people hold their pendulum in the palm of their hand before they begin, to 'charge' it.

When you ask your questions you may want to record the answers.

Now you are ready to begin to ask your questions.

Start with something simple such as, "Is it sunny today?" "Is it Monday?" "Are you here to answer my questions?"

Once you get the 'swing' of it - you can move on to personal questions.

Remember to only ask a question ONCE. If you want more information - you might want to use a chart. At this time the pendulum should be about two inches above the chart - or as is comfortable.

If the motion of your pendulum increases - or the circles get large - the energy is increasing and you can expect change linked to the question you were asking. Pursue further questions to get additional information.'
