What is your mantra?
What is your mantra?
Just wondering if you guys could share the mantra you use in your daily life. I'm a quote whore but I can't figure out which one mantra to use.
"The will to do, the soul to dare is yours for the taking if you prepare."
Re: What is your mantra?
Goddess, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference

One I really like is:
She changes everything she touches,
And everything she touches changes.
Change is, touch is,
Touch us, change us.
We are changers, everything we touch can change.
You can find the chant on Youtube ("She Changes"); I find it very beautiful and empowering.
What a great thread, by the way - thanks for starting it!

"I learned to make my mind large,
as the universe is large,
so that there is room for paradoxes."
I found it a wonderful quote from the book, The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts, by Maxine Hong Kingston. There are, indeed, some rather bizarre paradoxes in my life.

Thanks guys! Those are all good ideas. The Goddess change quote is someone's signature on here and it's so beautiful. Also, I've always loved the serenity prayer so just adding the 'goddess' part is perfect!!
"The will to do, the soul to dare is yours for the taking if you prepare."

Maybe it's because I've been a Tolkien nerd all my life, but I always end up using one of his walking songs as mine. It reminds me of our connection to the earth and helps kinda ground me when I'm stressed.
Roads go ever on and on
Over rock and under tree
By caves where never sun has shone
By streams that never find the sea

Laugh like the Mother

"My karma just ran over your dogma"
(I know, I know, it's old ...but it still cracks me up) I guess that's really not a mantra, but I couldn't resist

I think I found my mantra. Cogito ergo sum. It's Latin for I think therefore I am. So if I think negative I am. But if I think positive then I am!

Re: What is your mantra?
I've always been fond of the serenity prayer. I used to own a silver "coin" with the serenity prayer on one side and a butterfly on the other. I use a modified version of it:
Goddess grant me the ability to prevent what can be prevented,
The sight to see that what can't be prevented as a challenge to grow,
and the wisdom to accept the results of my decision.
Goddess grant me the ability to prevent what can be prevented,
The sight to see that what can't be prevented as a challenge to grow,
and the wisdom to accept the results of my decision.
I seen that one on a website of funny, misused and misspelled quotes. On the site it was Cogito Eggo sum: I think therefore I am a waffle. I wrote that one in my BOS because my boyfriend calls me Waffle.Klia wrote:I think I found my mantra. Cogito ergo sum. It's Latin for I think therefore I am. So if I think negative I am. Re: What is your mantra?
Nothing is true, everything is permitted.
First brought to my attention by a game, but it resonated with me. I don't really know the meaning of it, but I take it to mean that there is no one single reality that is right or true, therefore free will is permitted.
I'm going to have it tattooed, not in English though, maybe in symbols or Arabic.

Re: What is your mantra?
Yes! Quotes like that can be so wrong! ha. That's a funny one. I like your version of the serenity prayer, too. It's more personal sounding.
Altairtigris, that quote kind of sounds like a Shakespeare quote. Something like: nothing is wrong but thinking makes it so. So every decision and move you make is all how you interpret it. But with him it could mean 56040044 different things!
Have you guys heard the quote: Sky above me, Earth below me, Fire within me? ....... It kind of sounds Wiccan/Pagan but it's from a video game.

Skyrim? I'm fairly sure it's Skyrim. The elder scrolls are the reason I bought an Xbox original all those many years ago, so I'll be annoyed with myself if I'm wrong

lol that's me... unless someone else has it, too!Klia wrote:The Goddess change quote is someone's signature on here and it's so beautiful.
Anyway, the first Pagan chant I ever heard and the one that always sticks with me and I seem to come back to (I use many, many others now, but this one is just so my favorite) is Earth My Body.
Earth My Body,
Water My Blood,
Air My Breath and,
Fire My Spirit.
My favorite recorded version of it is on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWthHKwjyh8
If I'm really upset and I really need to calm down, especially when dealing with someone especially irritating, I sometimes have to say to myself, "God grant me patience."
I think it's a Christian thing, but whatever--I have a God too, and I hope he grants me patience.
I'm always singing wherever I go, often a chant or pagan song, or just whatever pops into my head, anything from Tom Waits to Opera to English Folk music... and if you're interested in learning British and American folk songs, I HIGHLY recommend the Contemplator: http://www.contemplator.com/
I'll have to learn Tolkien's walking songs! I love them and you've reminded me, thanks!
