Appreciating what you have.

Teenagers are a special bunch with concerns different than adults. Teens can chat with each other here and learn from one another.

Appreciating what you have.

Post by ThePaganMafia »

I feel a lot of kids these days just do not appreciate what they have. I know Im guilty of it. There are people in countrys who go for days without a bite to eat. Here in our cozy little world we have IPods, Mcdonalds, $300 jeans, fanct video games, the internet, etc.

There is nothing wrong with hvaing these things. They do make life nice. But we need to appreciate them. We need to appreciate our parents who work hard to give us a good life.

Spoiled children are a problem in our society. They don't understand the hard work that was put in to give the what they have. What's most terrible is is that they do not care. They are self absorbed and foolish.

I think the most important thing is giving back to your community. Make this world a better place. Appreciate what you have. Don't do it just during the holiday season. Don't do it just because you feel the obligation. Do it for your fellow human being. We are all on this Earth and all human. Help someone out.

I find you direct alot of crap at the youngens and I must say it's bullshit!

The things you directly address here are things that adults as well as the youngens are guilty of. A person cannot be blamed for the values of which they are raised. Maybe you should switch the words "kids" and "children" with "people" and throw it in the Life section.

I am not a teen, and mabye I shouldn't normally be posting in here, but I came upon this thread, and, I just have to say to sobek... Right on. That's one way to say it. I mormally would have said it a little nicer than you, but in this case you took the words right out of my mouth. If there is one thing that bugs me to the point of really speaking my mind, it's poeple who look at teens and go about tellign them that they are ungreatful, and/or spoiled. I was a teenager once, all of us were. When I was in my teens, I was living in a bad part of town, helping my mother, budget her low pay, to feed her children. A lot of teens know the ways of the world.
PM, I'm not meaning to make any trouble, and I'm sure Sobek isn't either. We are both just commenting.

I agree with Sobek on this. Adults as well as kids are guilty. I to find that most people don't appreciate what they have. I suppose I'm lucky in the fact that growing up I had absolutely nothing, we lived in a two bedroom apartment with Myself, my two brothers, mom and dad, grandma, uncle, and baby sister. I remember having to wear clothes from the salvation army that never matched, the only shoes I had then were a pair of tap dancing shoes with missing plates.

Luckily once we moved to Iowa things got a bit better after a few years. We now live comfortably but I thank the heavens everyday for everything I have. I always try to buy gifts for others during these holiday times and never worry about what I get. I love everything I have and know my parents worked hard for it, as did I. I had to work 8 hrs a day as well as going to school in highschool plus have time for homework.

I think people just need to have certain things happen to them to realize exactly what they have, and some will never realize it.

I too agree with Sobek, but I don't think we need to direct the 'spoiled people' for being ungrateful either. It really doesn't matter how spoiled they are, people tend to be ungrateful about the things they have period.

@ Sobek

Then this would have no valid points in it? I do realize a lot of adults are like this. I just didn't choose to direct it at them because it is more in the teens.

I don't direct any crap with yougins. I direct the truth and this is the truth. People do not appreciate what they have. I wasn't talking about anyone specific. It is a general message. Appreciate what one has.

I do not see what your problem is. Where is the fault in my message? What is wrong with encouraging to give back to the community?

You call this bullshit which seems to be what your full of.

I see points on both sides here.I think what you said is very valid PM. I have seen it myself so many times. I have had to help out with friends whose kids show them little respect bcause they do not have well defined boundaries of acceptable behaviour.Auntie Geri,is tough but fair.lol. I also know some great kids/teens who cope with awful parents,so it goes both ways.I won't go on about it now, but there is too much emphasis on consumerism / materialism these days altogeher.I don't usually read here, so I didn't see this sooner.

If this is all you are reading from my posting than I'm afraid you are sadly mistaken and are glazing over my points. That problem does not rest with me.

I'm not even going to waste my time addressing the rest of the nonsense.

Nonsense? You must be a fool if you simiss this that quickly. What else is there to read into? You obviously can't grasp the numerous good points made in it. You immediatley bash it. The only one speaking nonsense here is you.

Obviously.

Because there is no denying the extent of which you're right. If you can't handle an opinion of another person that doesn't agree with yours then don't post them(it's really that simple). You can get as hostile with me as you please, but I haven't a need for hostilities.

Hypocritical no? You originally said the post was bullshit. What did you expect. Don't talk to me about being hostile when you are the one who started with it. I responded in kind. Maybe you should learn how to start a nice disussion on a subject instead of calling it bullshit. It's called civility. Learn it.
Don't call one of my posts bullshit then expect me to respond with any less hostility.

I didn't call your post bullshit. What I said was bullshit was your blatant attack on younger people. No more, no less.

Don't misinterpret sarcasm for hypocrisy ;)

I'm well capable of nice discussion. But i'm not going to dumb down or lessen my thoughts or wordings to spare the angst of some kid. And what did I expect, from you? ... nothing short of what I got. :P

On the subject of civility, you haven't behaved in a civil manner. If that's not the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is. I am respectful, hence giving my opinions in the manner I do.

Oh please you think that was a blatant attack? You obviously have no earthly idea what you are talking about. And don't tell me calling something I say bullshit is not an attack or civil. The only one who has attacked anything here is you and that you refuse to accept or acknwolege that is extrordinary.

You can't even tell me how it was an attack on young people. My post is truth. A lot of young people are spoiled. Don't believe it? Go to your local mall and watch. Did i say everyone was? No. But it is simple fact a good many, probably most are.

But why just focus on saying young people are guilty? There is bound to be a large number of adults who are also just as bad so it would seem to make more sense to direct it at people in general
