Help me identify this?

Post by Raevyn »

Does anyone have a clue what this piece of rock/crystal/mineral (?) is? I found it in my collection but have no idea what it is.
It's quite rainbow ish which goes throughout the whole thing (probably wasn't a good idea but I broke a small piece off to see if the color ran through just in case it was painted or dyed, the colour DID go throughout it & on the end tips as well).

I think I know what it is!!
Found this image and a bunch of others on Google Image
silicon carbide

"Carborundum is a man made crystal combining silicon and carbon atoms fused together which sparkles in rainbow colours of gold, pink, green, blue and purple.
Carborundumwas originally sold as natural "rainbow hematite" and a few other rare crystals that look similar, but is increasingly being correctly known as a man-made silicon carbide. It is sand + carbon super heated and as it cools crystals form. What I can vouch for, is that it is still special. It brings out the inner-Child when the sun strikes its surface and the rainbowsparkles fly." That's what the rockcrystalshop.com.au said about it. I think that's what it is, what do you guys recon?

Peacock ore is great for channeling positive outcomes.

I have a piece of that and of peacock ore but they're different.
Here's a little diddy from our good friends at Wikipedia :fairy:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bornite

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_carbide

Then there is rainbow hemitite which looks a little like carborundum but not as jagged.
Don't know what it does though.
