A spell to banish unwanted traits of oneself...?
I was thinking along the lines of a black candle inscribed with your own name, as well as several white ones inscribed with the traits you wish to be rid of or the opposites of those traits (keeping it positive). Cast a circle, call the corners, light the black candle then start the spell (try to keep the traits you are working on in multiples of 3 but no more than 9 at a time) and say something like (for banishing)
From my sight,
I cast these traits,
My future turns bright
From these dire straits
I light this candle to affirm my desire
Help me with transforming fire
Harming none in its passing
Make this metamorphosis lasting
Or something like that. Then light one candle with the black one. Say it again, light the next one. Repeat until all candles lit. Meditate for 15 minutes on desired effect. Then extinguish candles. Burn and meditate on desired effect fot 15 minutes daily.
Any thoughts, suggestions?
Edit Change Log: slightly reworded spell.

From my sight, (this may cause blindness to self harm - "my troth I plight" means I pledge)
I cast these traits,
My future turns bright
From these dire straits
I light this candle to affirm my desire
Help me with transforming fire
Harming none in its passing
Make this metamorphosis lasting (MY metamorphosis IS lasting. - claim it in present tense)
Or something like that. Then light one candle with the black one. Say it again, light the next one. Repeat until all candles lit. Meditate for 15 minutes on desired effect. Then extinguish candles. Burn and meditate on desired effect fot 15 minutes daily.

I've had this on my mind, CD. Banishing the neg in a waning moon, should be balanced with attracting the positive in the waxing moon. When we remove something, it leaves a vacuum and that needs to be filled with the opposite to be successful and not bite you. So while you've identified what you don't want, also give heed to what you do want. It keeps us from going belly up.

That's why when I inscribed the candles it was with the traits I desire (the opposites of the ones I was banishing) I also chanted the traits I wanted to be rid of before each repetition of the spell.

Head smack. Yes, you did. I guess I was thinking with 1/2 my wits.

I have read through this entire thread several times now, and the spell still feels unbalanced to me. I think it needs it's counterpart to be done during the waxing moon. It just feels like the banishment is over emphasized.

A self-acceptance spell might make a good balance. We know we mess up, forgetting that we also succeed sometimes too. A toad may be ugly but it accepts itself, warts and all. Do a toad spell.

Or a spell to bring positive habits to support the new traits you desire

I'd call that a Prince spell.

A word of caution over spells to banish unwanted traits - should they act as initiators, be prepared for a lot of associated "work" to go onto them. Many of these things also have deeper psychological layers attached or may even be coping mechanisms - dismantle coping mechanisms with care if you are not prepared to find and come to terms with new ways to 'cope' or integrate their causes. It is also focusing on a negative.
