Center yourself, raise some energy up from the earth. Think of your goal in a few words (stones aren't big on conversation). Then hold your hands above the stone, making a triangle of your thumbs and index fingers to look through at the stone. Push energy from your belly and out your palms as you think or whisper the words to the heart of the crystal. You might see a twinkle of light jump from your hands to the stone.

Or hold the stone in yours hands and stroke it like a cat while pushing intent-filled energy through your hands and into the stone. Repeat the short phrase of your desire, as an affirmation, in positive words.

If you have a chant or rhyme, that's good too. Or just let your words hum, purring firmly, over and over and over.

Definitely finding yourself through centering chants/spells. They do have quartz in rings and necklaces to wear with you to prevent negative energy from entering your aura.

Probably too obvious to mention, but it is a good idea to cleanse or smudge your crystal before you began. A day and night on your altar in a salt water bath or lovingly rinsed in a clear mountain stream, (running water is excellent). While quartz is pretty good at not clinging onto negative energy, it is always a wise practice.
