Your Fave Deck/Spread and Why

Post by EmeraldMist »

Hello one and all! Just wondering what everyone's favourite tarot card deck is, and spread, and why? :D

The one that I always compare to, is the Spiral Tarot. I identify with the hermit, so always look at that card first. I also like how the majors and minors are so different in style, reinforcing the divide for me. I even like how they are slighly smaller in size. Finally, no card stands out- which is good, since it's annoying to question certain cards in a deck. I have a favorite spread I made up, but most often, do a celtic cross. I don't find there are "too many cards", even if there are!

I like anything cat oriented. Big surprise there. I usually use a Celtic Cross spread, but sometimes I will use a three card past, present, future spread.

One I most recently did for myself.

I placed The Fool card and The Magician card (if you're female, it can be the High Priestess) at opposite ends of the table.

I asked the deck to show me what I need to see in regards of moving from The Fool to The Magician, and drew three cards (past, present, future) -- placing them between the first two:

The Fool, Past Card, Present Card, Future Card, The Magician.

It turned out quite nicely, I think. The past and present card made sense in accordance with my current path, and the Future card came out reversed. The layout seemed to suggest that the Future Card needed to be 'turned right-side up' again in order to continue on the path towards 'The Magician'.

Corvidus that is such a cool spread. I use the past present future spread a lot (and I am looking for more spreads myself) and I use the celtic cross sometimes but I feel like it's too many cards (I am also fairly new to tarot) In the book my cards came with it has an elemental spread (so 5 cards (4 surrounding the center card)) and I like that one okay. However what I have noticed has been the biggest thing for me is 1 card draws. That gets me a lot of information however I am sure once I am a lot deeper with my intuition the more complex spreads will make more sense than they do now.

I will have to try the fool and the magician spread. Super neat.

One card draws can be quite illuminating. The card jumps out if the deck, and scares the socks off you because it's so accurate. I remember the first time I ever read cards, I was seventeen, and used a standard deck of plying cards. Very old school. I remember the spread was called a King's X. Everything in the spread was accurate. I don't really remember much besides that. 40+ years will play tricks with one's memory.

Your Fave Deck/Spread and Why

My go to spreads are the 3 card spread for day to day questions and the Celtic cross for special occasions. Right now I'm using the classic wait deck, but I'm hoping I get a fairy deck for my bday this year ;) I stuck to the basics for long time to make learning easier, but now I'm ready to venture out into something new.

My favorite deck is the Steampunk Tarot by Barbara Moore and Aly Fell. All the cards have a beautiful, warm feeling to them. In particular, I like that the Death card isn't a freaky-looking skeleton; it's a man kneeling before a grave as a woman on a pale horse rides into the foreground. Death, leaving behind the old, heading into the mysterious mists of the future. It's easier for me to make that connection with the Steampunk version than the old-school version("A GRIM REAPER?! You're gonna DIE!")

My current avatar is a close-up of the Star card from this deck :)

That's really cool Oddball!

I got a new deck not too long ago and I LOVE it! It's the Tarot Illuminati. The different suits are different cultures and I think that is really neat since we are all connected.

A spread I have been doing with those I learned it's companion book. It's called the Rising Sun Spread. It's 4 cards laid out like a rising and setting sun. 1st card: Dawn: The beginning, what it's like at the start. 2nd card: midday: What it's like in the middle of the situation. 3rd: dusk: The endings/when you reach the fullest point 4th: Midnight: The aftermath, what you can learn from it and how it changes you.

Anyway, I love this deck. Another deck I REALLY want is the Tyldwick Deck. I have never looked at cards and be sent into the pictures. They are all rooms and I can feel what it is like to be in the rooms. It's very interesting. However that deck is in the UK and it costs at least 100 bucks :( Maybe one day lol.

the Crow's Magick deck and the fools Journey past present future with a twist.Instead of laying out just the magician or high priestess. you put the card that best goes with it to describe yourself next to it. In my case its the Magician and The Death card.(change bringer)
I'm a spiteful, hateful, venomous creature, a pupil with no scruples who's no better then my teacher. Also not actually a raven.
