Virtual covens.

Post by Imperious »

Essentially, I'm curious whether or not anyone has ever been a member of a virtual coven and, if so, what their experiences were like.

I'm busy constructing a project from my own grimoire, a project that's largely been influenced by my decision to initiate a friend of mine. I was originally writing a book on Witchcraft, but I realised that the market is already full of such things and I tend to find the interactivity of a group a far more fulfilling experience. For that reason, I consider a coven a better approach to sharing and developing my work but I have to also accept that my current geographical disposition doesn't lend itself well to traditional coven procedures.

This isn't to mention that my standards for a coven are high, and very few groups meet that standard.

So... I come to the notion of a virtual coven. I know such things already exist, but I've tended to find that they're little more than public message boards, with a couple of private forums, and the material is... Well, not worth the effort. Because I feel this would be a good way to provide the proper training to the friend I'm going to initiate, branching out a little further could well be a solid approach assuming it can be done properly and helpfully.

So with all that said, I'm genuinely curious to find out if anyone has been involved in a virtual coven, what they liked about it, what they disliked, and how they feel the experience works in general. I'm also extremely interested in what people think a virtual coven should look like, or what it should consist of in order to be of any use.

Answers on a postcard. :)

Hey Imperious.

I'll be honest and say that I was part of a group online that was amazing. We weren't an organized coven per se-because like this site we were all so different in our practice.

But I will say we performed rituals together quite regularly and did all kinds of energy work. We transformed together, met in the astral and I even traveled to meet some of my folks. We would send things to each other, and I hope to meet more of my 'family' someday.

I'm not still there unfortunately because I was part of this with my ex husband, and (it's complicated) but he wouldn't leave and I couldn't continue to work at that level with him there.

If you want more details, I can write more, but it was truly an amazing experience, and I cherished it with my whole heart.

Thanks, Becks. :)

I'm sorry it turned out to be complicated, it sounds like the experience was inspirational. Would you mind if I PM'd you a few pointed questions about the group?

Also, the fact that we've seen only one response implies that virtual covens just aren't hugely popular or, indeed, hugely successful. That alone is an interesting scrap of implied information.
