Tarot: your beginnings

Post by Kitsune »

How old were you when you began an interest in tarot, and at what age did you buy your first deck?

I didn't know much about tarot, but I found myself in a new age shop at age 13 and a dragon deck began calling to me. I'm 23 now and I have only grown from then on.

This is the first deck that called to me:

I also have

A Fairy deck

A Wild Wood deck

And a Necronomicon Deck

I use each deck but for different types of readings. I had fifth deck but I cannot remember the name of it, but I gifted it to a friend because the energy from the deck was darker than I wanted to deal with.

My favorite deck is the Fae deck mainly because they seem to enjoy taunting the questioner.

What decks do you have?

I first got my "Start Tarot Kit" from Barnes and Noble in 2003 or 04. I never liked the imagery though, so I gave up on it. The other decks I've owned since: Clow Cards, Lunatic Tarot, Paulina Tarot and my newwww fave the Prisma Visions Tarot.

I got my first starter kit with a Rider-Waite deck when I was about 15 so I have that one and the Archeon deck which is the one I have been primarily using for about 8 years or so :)

So what led you to tarot?

For me I was looking into forms of divination other than runes (I had already been casting runes for a number of years) and that led me to tarot cards.

I bought runes once only to loose some of the stones before I learned how to use them. What do you usually use them for?

I also started with runes (after the tarot kit) but I got verrry distinct vibes of "get off our lawn" from the norse deities, so I haven't touched the stuff since lol.

I use my runes for meditation mainly but I also use them in personal readings when I feel like I need to be centred. I feel more of a spiritual connection with the runes than I do with tarot. I use the runes for myself only and the tarot for doing readings for other people and occasionally myself.

I stumbled onto my first deck at Dalton's (sp?) bookstore when I was a pre-teen (as well as my first very fluffy spell book). It piqued my interest enough to buy both and that began my journey.

I can't for the life of me remember what the name of the deck was, but I know it's out of print now (and the artwork doesn't draw me anymore anyway). It wasn't anything fancy though.

Now I use Shadowscapes, Animals Divine, and a few Oracle decks.

You can see all the cards through this link. It's a very pretty, and very intuitive deck. :)

This one is my main Oracle deck:

I actually made my first deck. I only had the Major Arcana, but I had a wonderful connection with the deck. I was around 28 when I made it and used it for good 5 years before it retired :)
I now have Arthurian deck which is really pretty and even though my bond with it is not as strong, we work well together.

I got mine half a year ago though it was only the Major Arcana. The artist recently released the Minor Arcana which I bought and now I have a full deck. It's scary accurate and I don't know if it's cause the cards really like me, I have a talent in tarot or both.
