Vervain's Altar
This is my bookshelf altar!
The painting is by one of my favorite artists, Oniko: http://edgeoftheworldclothing.com/art/Oniko-index.php I'm saving up for a large print of her Persephone!
I got this Medusa and Mermaid at Michael's, I think they make quite a pair!
Sorry the mermaid's a little blurry... :/
This is where I keep my stones...

Re: Vervain's Altar
My chalice was a Yule gift found at an antique shop...
I made this Spring Tree (I've been meaning to make the other seasons soon...)
And for a pentacle, I use this sand dollar! I was so happy when I found this in Santa Cruz

Here are a few shots of the shelves:
I'm super excited about my new Swan bottle! It's an old Avon perfume bottle, I haven't decided what sort of oil I'm going to put in it yet.

Your shelves are amazing! I love all the various thingamabobs and knickknacks.
And I adore your chalice. It looks fabulous on your altar.

Re: Vervain's Altar
Thanks! My altar is constantly developing--this is the first time I've been able to have a permanent one set up, before I had to keep my things in a shoebox or keep them looking like non-pagan things. Most of what's on my altar is found (sand dollar, mescal beans) or thrifted (goldtone double candleholder, many of the bottles and candles, spoon, boline) or gifted (the brass box, candleholder with red taper, chalice), and many of these things came to me before I was Pagan (my wand, the candleholder w/ the red candle, some of my stones--I collected rocks from very early childhood), so it's an accumulation of 20 years of collecting and about 10 years of being Pagan.

I love so many of your treasures. What kind of fur is sitting on your altar?

It's a rabbit pelt. This particular one was a gift.

Re: Vervain's Altar
I don't think I'd get any spells done if I had a pelt on my altar. I'd get distracted and start petting it. "Soft altar, warm altar, covered with bunny fur..."
I think the color of the rabbit pelt goes nicely with the deep color of your altar cloth.

Re: Vervain's Altar
Before I had a permanent altar, I used to put the pelt on my pillow at night! Rabbit fur is some of the softest...
Re: Vervain's Altar
Nice! I too have mine on my bookshelf. The shelves are so convenient for all the little knick knacks you need right at your finger tips. Where do you get your jars?
Echo of Shadows-- haha! I would probably pet my altar too.

Re: Vervain's Altar
Thanks everyone!
Most of my clear, corked jars of various shapes I picked up at Michael's craft store for a dollar each, but I haven't seen them around for a while. That was around Eostre. The others I get at thrift shops for real cheap (25-50 cents), except my car--I paid about ten bucks for my amber car bottle (in the back on the bottom shelf), but it has a tiny chip in the back wheel so it won't hold liquid. When I get it fixed I plan to make it into a hookah (the hookah I use now is made from an amber house-shaped whiskey bottle I got at the same antique store. Even my neat little swan bottle (an old Avon perfume bottle I haven't filled yet) was 25 cents at a thrift shop! Thrifting is just one of the best thingsKlia wrote:Nice! Re: Vervain's Altar
Thrifting is a good idea because $1 a bottle can add up. I thrift all the time but haven't really looked for jars but I will now. The best part about it is we are going green - but it's so hard cause I'm a perfectionist and I feel like every bottle has to be the same ha. Thanks for that though!
Maybe we were thrifters in a past life.
