Water soluble stones?
Water soluble stones?
Howdy all. I'm pretty ignorant about various stones. I am looking to get or make a stone bowl of some sort that I can leave out in wet weather. I live near Seattle so rain is somewhat guaranteed. I'd like to use the bowl to collect rain water and similar activities. My problem is I know there are some stones that are quite sensitive to water or acids. Depending on the weather and time of year the rain can be somewhat acidic. So, I'm wondering if any of the more knowledgeable board members might be able to recommend a stone I can use for this purpose. Thanks.
This is what I am, here is where I remove my mask.
Re: Water soluble stones?
I've never heard of water soluble stones--unless you consider salt and sugar stones.
I think soapstone is acid resistant. Granite may be resistant to the type of acid rain, although I think it is sensitive to one type of common acid used in rust removal.
Most stones that will be sensitive to acid are sedimentary and contain a lot of carbonates (?). I am trying to remember from Geology class.

Soapstone would work well, or if its during the day, a goldtone bowl, at night, a silver tone bowl.

White One...
Boji stone will start dissolving if you
put them in plants that need lots water...
Do you have a Crystal Bible by Judy Hall ?
That's how I found out the stone I had
was a boji stone, the female.

over such a short time period you dont need to worry, acid rain would take probably decades to have a noticable effect on a small bowl, expecially since the rain is now probably less acidic than it was a decade ago.
