fast growing shrubs?

does anyone know of some fast growing heary plants/bushes? we just had an elementary school built on the other side of our property & we would like to plant something along the fenceline to protect our garden & pets from the little hands that are sure to come poking threw if they can see stuff to grab...
We had the fence its self covered in grape vines but the state ripped them all off so I guess were stuck with having to replace them with free standing plants.
were in central FL too if region helps determin what would grow well...[/b]
