Soy free recipes

Post by IsisUnknown »

hello :)
I've recently been diagnosed with a soy allergy, anyone else that cooks soy free have some good recipes? I found a few on medical websites i'm going to try this week & will share if they turn out good :D

Also, any chain restaurants that you've found have soy free menus? I know Chilis does but its extremely limited & all are menu items with the extras removed...

I didnt think soy was that common?

Unless a lot of foods use soy oil or something but i thought soy itself was a replacement for things like what allergies so as long as you buy ordinary wheat bread etc... then it wont be a problem

Unless of course i am completely wrong, it does happen :P

soy in some form or another is im almost all processed foods. There are some companies that do not use soy but its realy down to label reading. I know the first tim we went to the grocery after we found that most of the time say if theres 10 brands of an item maybe one will not contain soy >_< It was very surprising to see. It is possible to make normal things at home but its realy more down to brands used or recipe variations.
Restaurants are another storry because of how much is premade & such... even their seasoning salts and things like that contain soy.

It is honestly shocking how many of your regular fod items contain soy with out us ever thinking about it.

Quite an eye opener. Have you looked online for specialist food stores?

actually I haven't yet because I have a good friend with the same allergy so we've been able to exchange brand names & specifics like that so far but I was just curious if anyone else had helpful info too :) most of the specific recipes will tell you the exact kind & brand of items so you aren't reading labels for 2 hours to make 1 dish. lol That is a very good suggestion though I will check if there are any specialty shops or if it may be to expensive to take that rought & update what I findout on that as well :)
I'm also a bit curious if dealing with this allergy is any easier or more difficult in other countries because of diferent standards too. I know its one of the big 8 allergies so in the US restaurants & food labels are required to clearly tell you that its in there and note if the product was even packaged on the same equipment as soy items...
