Poem About The Somme

Post by MidnightWolf »

This is a poem that I wrote for my History homework.

Caked in mud, cheeks stained with tears
Broken hearts filled with rational fears
Blood stained bodies lie dead in the distance
Challenging the meaning of our petty existence
Rats scurrying ‘round in the wet, muddy trenches
Corpses lie, trapped on the barbed wire fences
Thousands of soldiers, preparing to die
A tear wells up in a sleep deprived eye
A whistle is blown, the signal of death
Soldiers prepared, a sharp intake of breath
Bullets, flying, in this terrifying brawl
One by one, the brave soldiers fall
Lying dead, in the bitter sweet silence
All of this caused by the unneeded violence

Did you like it? I appreciate comments *hint hint*
