Tarot decks you recommend

Post by Firefly Dancer »

Hello all

I am learning about Tarot and I am searching to find one to use. I am not an expert at all, and in fact I was using the online tools and even downloaded a program that creates different spreads for my readings, but I do want to learn and use an actual real one I can hold in my hands or use during meditation or rituals. The deck I have been more exposed to is the Rider tarot and I am more familiar with its cards.

I wanted to try something different but not too complex for a newbie. I was checking the Sacred Circle Tarot but in the reviews it states it is not really for newbies and it is more a spiritual tool than a divination tool.

I was also checking the Faeries Tarot by Linda Ravenscroft which uses the same arcana just with Faeries images, as well as the Motherpiece Tarot. But I started to get confused with so many options

My aim is to have a general divination deck for general questions, and a more spiritual deck for different matters or occasions.

I was wondering if you could share which ones you use, why and how have they worked out for you.

Thank you for sharing !!

Firefly Dancer,
May I ask you...?
How is your intuition when it comes to the meanings(I don't mean those in the LWB),
how intune are you ??? Can you feel, see or hear from the cards ?
If this is still in the novice level, I would suggest you stay with the Rider deck; at least
a similiar deck. Once your intuition has developed more stronger you can get into the
oracle decks. I hope your talants frow while you're growing !!

Thank you, MsMollimizz

Actually while looking for decks, I bumped into the Thoth deck and had a reading made with it, which blown my mind. It was extremely accurate ( more than in preditions, in sensing the current state of things in my life and describing them ). I got impressed with it and was thinking on buying it, as I also like the art in the cards. Then heard something about this deck being not a friendly one and some statements that it worked under the shadow selves of the creators and that kinda freaked me out. Still have not got it, but I have a huge inclination to get that one.

I have a sharp intuition. I can read symbols pretty easily even if I am a newbie....

I have many, but I have a deck called "The Tarot Of Vampyres" It comes with a book that's a guide which I find helpful for beginners. It's really pretty too.

I have Wisdom of the Hidden Realms Tarot by Colette Baron-Reid. They are oracle cards, and may not be for a beginner but even so they are very useful to me and I seem to find solutions to my problems through them. I recommend these cards because they wear a loving and thoughtful touch to them. Really beautiful art aswell.

~good luck!

I have three...one is The Mystic Faerie Tarot by Barbara Moore (? pretty sure), some one called the "housewives Tarot" (it didn't read for me and I still can't read it today), and the other was given to me by a friend and their box and book was long since gone...but they are very pretty. The faerie one clicked with me.

I think it's most important that the deck clicks with you, if that makes any sense. For me I "feel" objects, and if I don't like the feel of an object I don't like using it. So the Faeries are my babies and I read them most.

If you feel you want that particular deck, get it. If it reads well for you it should like you okay, I think.

Firefly Dancer,
I fell in love with "Soul Cards" they are oracle cards, don't remember off-hand how many.
Now she came out with another, Soul Cards II.
There is no set definations for the card...but I hear them quite well.
There is some awesome pictures that speak quite well, that's why I asked
how well your intuition is.

I dont if I can recommend since I only had like two decks, and only one working for me, the thing with tarot decks is that you should choose the one that fits you, so go to your local store or online store and check decks, one must click to you! for me it was Internation Tarot Waite, for you it might be something different....

I found a deck by Mary Hansen-Roberts...the visuals are wonderful and the deck is the size of a normal deck of cards...which I esp like for ease of handeling and portable. This is my most used deck...I am somewhat of a collector, but for a beginer I would recomend the Ryder Waite or something with similar visuals (which my Hansen-Roberts deck has). If you like the Ren Faire...the deck by Robin Wood is a must...the visuals on this deck is amazing, however the quality of the card is terrible (flimsy). There are dozens and dozens to choose from. The WHLOE deck needs to sing to you...if there are a few cards you do not resonate with, you may not be able to read the deck objectively. A word on the Thoth deck...I do not recomend this one unless your path is the Temple of Thelema or some other Crowley based path. It cannot be read in reverse and has a little more of a dark nature than I am comfortable with. But the art is indeed fantastic. Good Luck in your choice!, Firebird

I know this post is sort of old...but if you're still looking for a deck I suggest the Gilded Tarot deck. I love mine :)

My two favorite decks are the Universal Goddess Tarot (which is actually the one I learned on) and the Gateway to the Divine Tarot. On both, I find the symbolism very easy to read, even if I don't know the "traditional" meaning of the card.

I have felt a connection to the Shapeshifter Tarot when I read about it after it first came out many years ago. After purchasing it last year I have to say that it is the most accurate deck I have ever used and I think my being called to it was my intuition telling me that we would work well together. Tarot decks are a very personal preference and I know from first hand experience that if we don't feel a connection they'll just sit in a box somewhere.

I've used the Druid Animal Oracle and one of the cheap sets that they sell at Barnes and Noble for beginners. I never connected with either of them. I suggest going to a store that specializes in metaphysical supplies because a lot of them will have sample sets that you can look at. Another option would be to meet with a tarot card reader and see which gives you the best readings and what they recommend. Good luck!
