The elements in circles and other associations

Post by Hunter »

This is only one point of view.

When casting circles the four directions are representative of the four directions. The idea is to balence the elements. I think that for solataries it is important to balence the elements in one's life. Anyway when casting spells one might use the tools of the four directions.

Wand fire
dagger air
pentagram earth and
cup water

Some traditions switch the dagger and wand.

It's also good to set up the stations of the directions/elements

North earth
east air
south fire and
west water

again some traditions differ

I find it interesting that earth and water represent the femenine or Godess while the air and fire represent male energy or the God.

Also Arch angels can be associated with the directions and elements

Rafael East
Michael south
Gabriel west
Uriel north

energy types can also be associated with elements

Air thought
fire spirit
water emotion
earth material

Times of day
dawn air
noon fire
dusk water
midnight earth

Phases of the moon

waxing water
full earth
waning air
new fire

season
Winter earth
Spring Air
Summer fire
Autum water

Characteristics
Earth dry and cool
Water moist and cool
Fire hot and dry
air hot and moist

colors
earth black
air yellow
water blue
fire red

One can now build a ritual based on these elements for max effect. So money is associated with earth - one could stand in the north quadrant of the circle, in winter, on the new moon, at midnight wearing black using the pentagram and focusing emothion to invoke uriel to bring wealth. If it could be done outside on the cool dry earth all the better.
