Justice vs Judgement

Post by Oddball »

Quick question - what is the difference between the Justice card and the Judgement card? I always get those two confused.

In brief I would say,
Justice, is cutting through all the Bs to get to the truth.
Judgement, is when truth is revealed one can be freed of bonds.

But maybe someone else had a better description?

Mm, I'd say judgement is discernment, differentiation of one thing from another, or weighing the balance; while justice is the outcome or the fall-out from decisions. So it's like making choices and living with the results.

In my opinion, Justice is more concerned with the external world, the legal system, etc. I see Judgement as coming to terms with your inner truths. Judgement asks, "How are you right with your gods?" Only by facing this internal reckoning can one close one chapter and move onto the next (and in the Major Arcana, Judgement is followed by the World, which is the culmination of the Fool's Journey).

In my thoughts, Justice is fairness, Law and order, Moral and ethical. It is about the external world around us. Judgement is a more personal thing. It does not focus on everything, but one thing. One person. one piece of the law as directed at one action or person.
I'm a spiteful, hateful, venomous creature, a pupil with no scruples who's no better then my teacher. Also not actually a raven.
