Herbalists

Post by AnuChild »

This feels like a bit of a silly question, but can one take courses on herbalism? Goddess knows, I have books upon books about it, but, I don't know, having a teacher or mentor for guidance would be nice.
Come, heart, where hill is heaped upon hill:
For there the mystical brotherhood
Of sun and moon and hollow and wood
And river and stream work out their will.

Thanks for those sites, hedgewitch. They're really informative. I love the Blazing Star one, but have no idea how people can take ten months to complete the apprenticeship...

I'll be honest, I didn't look at the BlazingStar website before I posted it, I just did a search on google and typed in Massachusettes Herbalism courses :?

I've had a look now and I'm not really sure what to think. I do know they charge a heck of a lot of money and you don't even get a recognised qualification out of it :?

Give me a day and I will get some better links for you to check out, OK :D

Argh! Being a college student means I'm a nomad up and down the East Coast and so many of these span second semester, summer break, and first semester. I feel called... but don't know how to logistically make it work... smiley17d

A while ago I thought of attending a class- yep, $10,000 per semester. Insane! I refuse. Unfortunately that puts me in the realm of self-users only. I would like to teach others to use herbs safely (as most people these days indescriminantly pop capsules of the stuff thinking that it does them good). Luckily I found a great book written by NIMH (aww, dang I can't remember what that stands for (National Institute of Medicinal Herbalists, I think.) Lots of great stuff in it, but - lots of herbs ignored.
I do all my research on the internet these days. Google scholar has lots of real work on herbalism.
The great thing about it is that you're forever learning new things about herbs. I'll be a professional Herbalism student forever! Weeeeee.....! :D
