Re: Coffee Shop Magic

My deeply wise and highly esoteric and magical advice is this:

Find another job.

Life's too short to be miserable every day.

Re: What isn't Wicca

I think of Wicca more as, "If you checked 5 or more off this list, you might be a Wiccan!" I think that's a pretty good summary, Xiao. It's largely what I mean when I say you should follow the Rede if you want to be a Wiccan, which is a central tenet, rather than the central tenet. To me,...

Re: The Real Meaning of Wicca

One of the things I have actually found most frustrating and I know this is going to sound crazy, is the insistence by so many people that "if it feels right to you, then you are doing the right thing, as long as you do no harm"... At some point that concept is just a recipe for people go...

Re: What isn't Wicca

I'd have to disagree with you, as someone who is now getting back into the "Wiccan" label. I don't consider the Rede to be so central to Wicca that it's a dealbreaker if you don't follow it. Thanks for the post, Xiao, it was thoughtful and eloquent. For me, there has to be some central te...

Re: The Real Meaning of Wicca

So then how has it gotten too "fluffy"? I'd suggest it's a mixture of modern popular "culture", and a desire to be accepted. We know, for example, that interest in Witchcraft ballooned after The Craft was released in 1996, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer became immensely popular af...

Re: What isn't Wicca

However, now some people use the term 'wiccan' interchangably to mean simply someone who follows a pagan year or follows a pagan year and practices magic. Maybe they are consciously making the decision to reuse the word from Old English, and reclaim it from Gardner? I doubt that is the majority. I ...

Re: What isn't Wicca

I know Wiccans that don't even follow the rede. This type of thing just makes me sad. My views on "Christian Witchcraft" aside, not following the Wiccan Rede means, effectively, that you can't be Wiccan. As hinted elsewhere, it's something of a deal breaker because it's an absolute founda...

Re: What isn't Wicca

That may very well be the case, haha. In the Pagan blogosphere, I see so many people trying to do their darnedest to distance themselves from Wicca and emphasize how "serious" and "un-fluffy" they are, to the extent that some of them can't even tolerate being associated with ter...

Re: Is there a way to "transform yourself"?

While I don't see as much of the animal in me (and I think my animal is more the Crow) I definitely understand your rage/anger issues. I am the same. Most of the time I am serene and calm and nothing much gets me mad... but there are certain subjects (usually animal related - I also feel very stron...

By the way, I put additional information about Wards and Servitors.
That could well have been an introductory piece on the creation of egregores.

Got something like that in the works?

Re: What isn't Wicca

I guess the resistance to Wicca just comes from the plethora of Wicca 101 books out there ... it makes it seem like Wicca is the "gateway" or "mainstream" Paganism. And no one in Paganism wants to be mainstream, haha. I think you're right. The volume of Wiccan published material...

Re: What isn't Wicca

I think you've provided a very accurate summation here Imperious. Thank you. I may not always agree with you, but I have no problem respecting you and your point of view. Snow Thanks. :) I honestly thought there were a lot of good discussion points on show before I got here, though. I've literally ...

Re: Witchy Ways to Establish Our Home as Protected Space

That was another good read, Seraphin – you’re on a roll. A lot of what you’re describing touches on paranormal phenomena, particularly things like stone-tape theory. I reckon you did a pretty good job of staying on topic, given that I’d have ended up prattling on about the nature of poltergeists for...

Re: What isn't Wicca

What a bizarre conversation this turned into. I’m coming into it late, and have obviously missed some of the drama and edits, but how the original post could have been construed offensively is completely beyond me. Hell, Becks first post was excellent and it seems even that might have upset people. ...

Re: Variations of Wicca?

I think Chalice's point was that a lot of people use the terms "Witch" and "Wiccan" interchangeably, and that's certainly my experience. For what it's worth, Yana's correct; "Witchcraft" is something you do, while "Wicca" is a religious framework that typicall...
