Re: Metal or Wood. The Sword, Element of Fire
Swords and athames have very similar uses much of the time. (Although specific uses and correspondences may vary from tradition to tradition, of course.) Swords often are used more in coven workings, rather than in solitary workings, where an athame would do just as well. But if you have a large spa...

Re: Guide me
https://www.adf.org/ Is another druid organization. Not always purely Celtic, but they're a fairly scholarly bunch with an interesting approach to filling in the blanks that surround the druids and Celtic religion. They also do mail based study courses, and have quite a few members-only forums and t...

Re: Egyptian Wicca
I'd be pretty careful about a lot of the Jesus=Horus stuff out there. There's a lot of info that's been made up for whatever reason/agenda one would have to do that. Very little is backed up by primary sources.

Re: Goddess Isis
But I’m wondering if this newfound connection will interfere with my devotion to Aphrodite? I’ve read that having deities from different pantheons is bad. The whole 'don't mix pantheons' thing really has no ancient basis. Ancient pagans frequently mixed pantheons. Both the Greeks and Egyptians adop...

Re: Candle colours and circle casting
Different traditions do use different colors for different elements. Kemetics working in a more Wiccan context often use black for earth. I know one traditional witchcraft group that uses brown, blue, red, green. Alexandrian Wicca used to have it's own color system, although I believe that's since c...

Re: Very depressed with my current state in life
...And I'm sorry to say anyone who would leave for a superficial problem might have been superficial themselves. It sounds like she left because of the depression, which still seems to be running rampant... As far as scaring, sorry, I know you asked for magical treatments, but there are lots of mun...

The Intent Argument
I believe intent is important, but that it's not the only component to magic. Successful magic involves raising and focusing energy towards a goal. It's like setting out to bake bread. You can buy the ingredients, intend to do it... but it's not gonna get done without some work and some know-how. Yo...

Re: I think my Matron might have changed with me
In my experience, it is very rare for a person to have a single patron, or pair, that stays their one and only for their entire life. Not impossible, mind you, there are some out there where that's certainly the case, but for many deities can come and go, or take a backseat at times. A new deity is ...

Re: moon lessons.
This might make things more confusing, but hopefully not... Astronomically, the new moon is when the moon is 0% illuminated. This is also sometimes called the dark moon in modern paganism. It's when the moon isn't visible at all. But there are some old sources where the new moon is actually the new ...

Re: Am I ready to wear a pentacle?
More often I have had people think I am a devil worshiper, so be prepared to explain that away too. Bb, FF Yeah, I should have been clearer, but that's what I meant about rude assumptions/comments. I mean, rude because it's never, oh hey, a Satanist, cool, nice to meet you! It's always ahhh, Satani...

Re: Am I ready to wear a pentacle?
On a more mundane note, if you plan on wearing it where others can see it, you might want to be prepared to answer questions about it - what it symbolizes, some of the history behind it and the other faiths that have used it, what Wicca is, Wicca vs witchcraft vs paganism, etc. And of course, some w...

Re: Pisces and relationship problems
Well it's not just me. It's every Pisces I know personally too. I do have to wonder if there is not some confirmation bias going on. It might be every Pisces you know, but it's no Pisces I know. And how many people do you know who are not Pisces who go through the same thing? I know many. I don't k...

Re: What is a witch name?
There are many different ways one might get a name, and many different reasons for it - and there are plenty who never engage in the practice, for a variety of reasons. Sometimes a name is part of initiation into a tradition, and it is given to you, or you might choose it. Or, in some traditions, yo...

Re: Alphabets
The ogham alphabet isn't inherently magical. I mean, it's not used for primarily magic, like something like theban, which tended to be used in occult works and many use as a cipher these days. Ogham was used on monuments, other documents, and so on, like most other alphabets. Any other alphabet coul...

Re: Moral Question
Well, let's look at the rede... first, the word itself, rede, means advice. It's not a law, it's not a commandment. It's advice, and blanket advice doesn't always fit every situation. As law, or even advice, it is also impossible to always harm none. You will cause some harm in your life, of course....
