As you may or may not remember from a past discussion, I have native blood on my mother's side. I was with my friend and brother earlier today, and I recommended we create a sweat lodge to attend together. I told him how deep and meaningful the experience can be, and we have the perfect location in the canyons by our home. I intend to go, and love the sweat lodge experience.
I also discovered that a friend of ours (he's about late 50's or so) who worked at a local curio shop, attended sun dances and various other ceremonies. It's a comforting thing to experience, and good to know that there are others who can relate to you nearby. ^^
Thoughts? Suggestions?
My only thought is fire safety. Here in Southern California, as you may or may not have heard, had been suffering from the extreme wildfires lately (200-300 foot tall flames). Luckily they have either died or are finally ending. I also suggested that if the fire danger was too high, that we hold it in our backyard. I prefer the wilderness, because we're in nature proper, but I don't want to risk hurting nature.

I don't think a sweat lodge is something you would want to set up in the wilderness...unless you had some tribal land to do it on...it would be creating a site. A vision quest I could see doing that, but a sweat lodge in your backyard is the best idea.
Vision Quest is a good thing for in the cayon, if you're not in flash flood danger.
