Silversong's poetry

Post by Silversong »

Technically this is untitled, but oh well. Completely mine. Don't ask what inspired it; it's a long story and one I don't intend to tell in any more detail than this. XD

Once there were three.
Now there is one.
One moved away,
One had to stay,
One's parents couldn't make up.

The one changes schools.

She makes new friends,
But it's not quite the same,
Still, in a few days,
Those friends see her way.
Now four believe it's no game.

But one loses his way.

The years have passed,
The new three have grown.
Two more come their way,
One stops seeing one day.
Four again, only two of the old.

Only one of the first.

They drift apart,
But they'll come back, you'll see.
But it's not enough,
This world is too rough
For one, and then two, and then three.

The first stands alone.

An army of one,
A warrior of stone.
At first she is mad,
And then she is sad,
She cries, “How could I have not known?”

The sky answers not.

Still, she will fight,
She will defend,
Tears burn her heart,
But she won't fall apart,
She'll keep her belief to the end.

A trickle of doubt.

She hears a voice,
A terrible thing -
Perhaps they are right.
Is this really your fight?
Her own voice, it cracks as she sings.

She cries to the gods.

“Too late for me,
I've come too far now.
How could I have known
That I'd stand all alone?
Oh, I wear a star on my brow...

Yet it seems I'm alone.”

She feels a warmth,
A ray of light,
“My daughter, you're home,
You're not all alone.”
And she knows that the Goddess is right.

God and Goddess in all.

Friends all around,
The Divine is here.
God and Goddess alike,
They hear all of our cries,
And they speak – if we listen, we'll hear.

The one rejoices!

She laughs and sings,
Though a sword's in her hands -
She knows that she's home,
She is not all alone,
And that's enough, so she joyfully stands.

She is not alone.

First there were three,
Then there were four.
Then four again,
Though they still stand as friends,
Now there's only one at the door.

But she smiles yet.

Personal Demons

Post by Silversong »

This was originally written for a poetry contest, but I never entered it XD Inspired partially by my own personal demon, whom I actually named and gave a conscious appearance so I can better recognize her. Some of the ones I noted are ones I've only heard of; others, I have personal experience with. Fatal flaws.

Personal Demons
by Silversong

We all have a personal demon,
Who follows us morn, noon, and night,
They hide where the shadows are deepest,
Or play where the sunlight is bright.
Just like us, every one's different,
They come in every shape and size,
Invisible beings too often ignored
By the ignorant and the unwise.

Some might be braggarts or boasters,
Others be timid and shy,
Some might be obsessed with vengeance
Or that too-familiar trite green eye.
One is a bloodthirsty warrior,
Another worries so much it's a blight,
One forces belief on another
Whose self image just can't be right.
Some may hold grudges forever,
Others lash out without cause,
Some cannot let go of loved ones,
Even long after they're lost.
Some are the prideful and haughty,
Some are cold-blooded and cruel,
Some whisper, “Death,” to their humans,
Until they are by that word ruled.

Most demons seem perfectly innocent,
Most of us don't realize they're there,
And when we do, we ask, “Where are they?”
Afraid for our lives and welfare.
You see, my friend, it's very simple,
Yet somehow quite hard to believe,
These demons do not hide behind us,
Instead, they're inside you and me.
Now, that doesn't make us all evil -
In fact, that is far from the truth.
It simply means we should be cautious,
Acknowledge the demon in you.
What is your personal demon?
What's your so-called tragic flaw?
Name it now, silently, inside,
Know that it's there, power raw.
But don't be afraid of your demon,
Be cautious, that is all I ask.
Recognize when your demon's speaking,
And fight it – that's your only task.

I wrote another one. This basically ended up being the summation of my spiritual existence to date.

I chose this path, my very own,
Though shown the way to others,
No person forced me on my way
To the arms of my great Mother.
It took me many youthful years,
Though not as long as many,
Before I returned to my home,
The path more mine than any.

And when that voice awoke in me
That told me who I am,
It led me to my firstborn love,
Back to my first homeland.
Although it took its sweet time,
I know it led me true -
Because, my thirteenth Litha,
It led me straight to You.

I knew then who I should be,
Whom I had always been.
That compass made to guide me?
It always pointed in.
I thought it might be broken,
Its balance off or skewed,
But then I was reminded:
All things are one with You.

And so I laugh, rejoicing!
I feel You laughing, too.
For I'm still young and foolish,
We are in one, not two.
But still, Your warm arms hold me,
I feel Your love's embrace.
It took me far too long to see
Your shining, smiling face.

And now, we dance together,
Beneath the sparkling sky,
The silver moon, Your symbol,
Reflected in Your eye.
I have no doubt who I am,
That's all I need to know.
I trust You'll always be there,
In rain, or sun, or snow.

I call You as my Mother,
I call You as my friend,
You are my ever guidance,
Your wisdom knows no end.
And when my body ages,
And earthly form does die,
I'll face the fate given me
With my Lady at my side.

This world holds many trials,
But I am of the plessed:
My belly's full and home warm,
My heart is sure, no less.
I pray for those less fortunate,
That peace with them abide -
My prayers not constrained by
Which name they call You by.
