Replacement for mugwort
I have to use mugwort in a spell but it does not grow where I live. Is there something else I can use in its place?

Re: Replacement
What purpose or properties does the spell require?
Mugwort's properties are: Divination, fertility, healing, lust, protection, psychic power, safe travel, strength according to the EUTM correspondences topic.
Bay's properties are similar: Divination, employment, endurance, fidelity, psychic powers, protection, purification.

Re: Replacement
You have an Artemisia species that apparently grows abundantly in south Africa. It would be the closest thing to mugwort and would be an excellent substitute. I imagine you would find it in a part shade to full sun location near water ie; stream or lake.

Good luck! Let us know if you find it.

Re: Replacement
FBF that's brilliant. It resembles yarrow quite a bit, doesn't it... Same genus or whatever classifying layer that is?
Re: Replacement
Yes
Artemisia's are usually pretty abundant anywhere you go.
Mugwort, wormwood and sagebrushes all in that genus.
The A. afra variety is kinda yarrow-esk in its ferny leaf shape but Artemisia can look quite a a bit different different depending on species. Our local mugwort has a rather broad leaf and isn't fern like at all.
I hope our poster comes back.
What about your area Spirit? Have you stalked the wild Artemisia's?

Re: Replacement for mugwort
I've got red & white flowering yarrow running rampant from just 3 plant's I'd had in my alley-side garden years ago when I could kneel & get up again. If I don't keep it mowed, I'm hip deep.

Re: Replacement for mugwort
If you want to use mugwort for divination or psychic work, you could substitute wormwood, anise seeds, flax seeds or althea leaves or root.Valkyrie686 wrote:I have to use mugwort in a spell but it does not grow where I live. Is there something else I can use in its place?
