A black woodpecker calling

Post by blue_moon »

It totally is "stay inside" weather today *brr* wet a bit cold wind... a misty rain every now and then.

But I did leave the house and on my way home I decided to stop at the small piece of woods just before my hometown. I wanted to "find" a mistletoe I could take and bring home.

I got out of the car and walked along the street - its realy just a piece of land with trees there. You can't really call it woods.... I left the street and walked up into the woods. Stepping over fallen trees and through blackberry bushes.
At first I wanted to walk down left hand but I didn't. There were only few trees - and the fields.

wasn't lucky... so I went back and wanted to go to my car. Then I heard this bird calling. I stoppen... looked... waited.
"Shall I look for my mistletoe down here?" The bird called again and flew to a tree. He was black quite big and he had sth red on his head. He called again so I stepped down from the street and ober blackberry bushes and around the little trees. The bird called again and flew away.

There was a tree that just recently fell and in its crown I found a huge misteltoe.
I asked for permission and it poped into my hand - so I tool it home.

I looked up the bird and listened to its call on youtu** it was a black woodpecker -- I had no idea this bird lived here!

"A little birdie told me" is not just a line! How cool is that? And now you have your mistletoe for the winter!
Out of curiosity, I wonder if you could post the U tube video so we all will know what he sounded like?

That was so cool!
I like how they showed the other creatures that live in tree holes.
Thanks for sharing.
