Thoth Tarot Deck

Post by Silent Stream »

Bought this deck last year because I was drawn to it. Don't know a lot about Aleister Crowley ,probably don't want too!! However, I think the deck is awesome in every way. I don't really use it a lot because I consider myself still a novice in tarot. Some are put off or intimidated by this deck and rightfully so but I think it's like anything else - you have to have a very open mind and the right tools to appreciate this visually stunning deck. I'm still using the rider deck and that's fine, just know that I think to understand the Thoth deck you must have this wonderful book by Gerd Ziegler ''Tarot'' ''MIRROR OF THE SOUL'' . A complete handbook for use of the deck easy to understand, explains in detail all of the cards in plain English I would not want this deck without this book period! It can be found on amazon got mine for 18.95$ buying this deck without this book would be a waste of time and money, as I grow my plans are to cross over to the Thoth deck for my main deck. When I feel I'm ready I want to by the large Thoth deck the stunning detail of this deck truly a work of art. Wish I had bought the large deck first. Anyways for those struggling or given up on this deck there is hope, Mirror of the soul! it gives affirmations for each card as well. How to use cards for internal balancing. Don't let your Thoth deck collect dust relive the way you felt when you first opened up the deck with this great companion book! Silent Stream

I've been looking at decks as well, and I looked at this one (on Amazon, with that book too!) but it did seem a little intimidating. I do know a little bit about Aleister Crowley and while I think he is a ... strange duck, I think his deck was truly, as you say, a work of art.
It's too "grand" for me though, right now, and I will keep looking for a deck that speaks to me. I'm a novice. I once had the most beautiful deck given to me (with art from the man who did the art for the Neil Gaiman "Sandman" graphic novels) but the young woman who gave it to me I don't think really "let it go" because the few times I tried using it, I got strange responses from it that made no sense (Even to my beginner knowledge) and I didn't know how to "clean it" and make it my own back then (actually I still don't! but I'm learning!) so I handed it on to someone who I think did know - she was much more advanced in her knowledge of Tarot and Oracle cards and Divination, than I was.
"It's often a person's mouth that broke their nose." - old Irish saying.

I listen more than I speak - don't mistake that for lack of opinion.

I would get this book if your just starting out like me , Dusty White'' the easiest way to learn tarot ever'' with the rider Whaite deck. You can also can look him up on you tube before you invest in one of his books, or you could try the oracle cards just to get some experience! Hope this helps my friend. Silent Stream
