i have never really had a real, permanent altar until today so i need some items and it is a small altar so i need the necesity items, what would you suggest?

I would just put your representations of the elements and your own personal decorations. I'm not sure how important an altar cloth is though. My potential altar is small too, so that's what I'm going to do as well.

Oh, a statue is great. I didn't think of that. Are athames necessary? Can't athanes represent fire....or is it air....or nothing? :?

What other things could be used for Earth? I like the red pen idea.

you could use a brown pen. i actually use the element when possible, i use dirt, i use water. it is really easy, just get something that represents it for you. maybe a tigers eye stone.

I can't get stones around here, and I don't want my altar to be as obvious as it once was. Pens could definatly work....my mom has a habit of stealing pens if she likes them. And since we have so many my mom wouldn't know the difference between my altar, and some pens on table. Brillant! :D Thanks Witch1693! :D

Well kind of....they know but we just don't talk about it. My mom's even (when I had water on my altar) made a comment about it. Whether she actually used the word altar is questionable. I just don't want to open up that gaint can of worms again! It really wasn't fun.

its probably one of things that parents see as fine so long as it's someone elses child?

well as far as altar items:
for constants: things you use most commonly including your various representations if you want them.

for temporaries: things you will be using while your there.

sorry for the lack of specifics but it differs from person to person.

I don't think that they think it's bad. I think they're just afraid of it, because they don't know what it is.

That's how my mom is. She didn't care about Kim- my friend- being interested in Wicca. My dad is another story. He's sent a bunch of mixed messages about his feelings. I think he has mental issuses- seriously.
