Does anyone know of any great craft ideas that down require a sewing machine? I have tons of fabric, buttons, sea shells, stones, beads, and other craft supplies, but I don't own a sewing machine. I can sew by hand if necessary. So, any good ideas out there?

Thanks!!

Thanks Smogie! I'll have to try that! I ended up making these. 3 dogs toys from fabric strips and 2 small purses. The purses are lined in the inside. It was fun, but I could have done 10 bags in the time it took to make these 2 if I had a sewing machine, lol..

As time has gone by I gained some weight, so sad but...
I wanted to do something with all the levi material...
I decided to make a rug for my dog.
I cut strips from the pants about 1 1/2 in to 2 inch
wide after removing the pockets. I cut up as much
of the pants as possible even tho they weren't all the
same length. I took three strips the same length and
braided them, when I got to the end I put a clothes
pin to hold the braid. I would hand sew another
strip to each strand and continued the braid. After
I got about 3 feet of braid I folded it on itself and
sewn them together with the small crochet string
because it was thicker and would last longer...!
(I will take pic tonight and post it)
Nerve damage from accident started making my
hands burn the more I used them.
Fast forward to having a bunch of t-shirts...!
I started making one out of t-shirts cutting loops
so I really don't have to sew any strips together
cause I can just loop them together ! T-shirt
rug is a lot easier to sew together, too !
It all depends on how much energy you want to
put in it as to what you make it out of.

Remember pot holders made on a loop loom? The squares can be hand crocheted together into rugs. Or use up old yarn in place of loops. My arthritic hands can still manage the loop loom, but a bag of pre cut loops is getting pricey. There are you.tube instructions for the yarn out there...

ha ha ha! Totally! Think we still have one around here but it's plastic, remember when they were metal?! I might still have that some where too.
Lately I've been crocheting, all kinds of cozy items. Also I'm crocheting with rainbow thread little bags with drawstrings and small satchels with colorfull buttons and different sized thread and yarn in the same piece..it's been fun !
Cool stuff so far you guys :fairy:

How cute toys and purses! :fairy:

You can make decorative boxes by gluing sea shells, buttons or small stones on boxes. You can use them for storage of sewing stuff, jewelery... Similar can be done on photo frames.

If you buy little hooks and wire, you can make earrings and necklaces/pendants

Or make puppets :)

Oh good ideas! I've dabbled somewhat with wire wrapping and jewelry making, I need more practice though.

Hand sewing little wall applique some piece of muslin as your base an A4 page width and add a bit of length to that.
Two squares or two rectangles of 2 different fabrics as basic block shape house. Add 2 triangles for roofs. Add windows doors in smaller pieces of again different fabrics. Add some green of brown so houses stand on area.Add trees, shrubs side of houses. Add blue fabric for sky. I did one day time sky and one darker sky with tiny gold stars.( No picture I have not finished my little houses applique yet...)
The site archive.org has old embroidery/needlework stitches books so you could add some different stitches as adornment. Use different types of threads. Add beads as accent. A nice focal bead as doorknob to doors.
Simple small projects to hand sew things like makeup bags, pencil case, pin cushions, needle books, pot holders, placemats, mug rugs, table runners, eye glasses case, notebook cover, shoppy bag, beaded embroidery evening clutch, bags, wallets, pillowcases, simple muslin nightgown, infinity scarf, simple top with thin straps , aprons. :)

I've been thinking of ways to decorate binders and found some ideas.

This one I like. You could use bits and pieces to decorate your BOS, grimoire, dream journal and such. You can draw a design on cardboard from a cardboard box, cut out the negative spaces, glue it on the cover then use fabric (or soft leather if you have it) and place the fabric over that. Be sure to press the fabric into the edges of the design for clean lines. The design should "pop" up from a flat surface.

On the reverse side of the cover, you can use decorative paper to hide the edges of the fabric that you folded over. You could even use lace for borders.
