Thanks for the reminder. We need to take some of that when we go to the dunes in June. We can build castles on the sandbars, and when Medano Creek shifts, it can carry our wishes and dreams downstream.

Unrequited Reach

Unrequited Reach

Image

An artist's brush depicts a finite breach
between the infinite Creator's reach
and that conceived in His own image, yet
endowed with its own silent form of speech,
which speaks of its reluctance to abet
the Maker's overreaching will to whet
an appetite to touch His masterpiece,
only to find He'd made His worst regret;

for Adam wouldn't stretch to such caprice,
nor would his offspring tax themselves to cease
their worldly ways to 'worship' someone who 's
no better than the 'gods' of ancient Greece!

That unrequited reach was thus a ruse
to vocalize the artist's secret views.

The Caws of Creation

The Caws of Creation

Dark birds upon electric wires
swaying to their caws
belt out a chorus of desires
scored by nature's laws

of need to eat and procreate,
as if they're so designed
to seasonally relocate
to propagate their kind...

and spread a story of creation
told in their own terms,
without the mythos of damnation
humankind affirms.

Good to know the titular play on words wasn't lost on you, FF. ;)

The image was one of a bunch of crows sitting next to one another on some power lines. I removed it.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Brings back fond memories of the Ravens we saw in Yellowstone. Three of them were sitting in a tree cawmenting about the tourists. I referred to it as the "conference caw."

I also have a murder of crows that complains about me parking in my own driveway. They're quite nervy.

The Bell

The Bell

It's deep canorous tones articulate
across the many landscapes of the earth
its promise from the moment of our birth,
with no compulsion to discriminate.
And surely as the planets circulate
in deference to the fully proven worth
of their celestial master's solar girth,
its ((ring)) encircles each and every fate.

Its clapper strikes will take away the breath
of those convicted for their human roles,
regardless of their faith or shibboleth;
its gaveled judgment nobody controls.
And like all criminals condemned to death,
there is no clemency for whom it tolls.

Thanks, Corvidus. :D

It's a Petrarchan sonnet, which is actually my least favorite variation of the sonnet form.
