Carvings of Zapotec Gods Discovered

Post by Black Cloud »

Villagers in Puebla have found two carved stone monuments dated too 1,500 years ago on Cerro de Pena mountaintop, 6000 feet up, probably built by the Zapotecs. The carvings are dedicated to the god of the underworld. One of the carvings has a figure with horns and claws wearing a loincloth, and others show an iguana, eagle and female figure resembling the bat god, a deity large in Zapotec culture.

Wow! Those are amazing and absolutely beautiful. I hope they find more. I have never heard of the Zapotec culture so this is really informative. Thanks for posting this Black Cloud.

The ancient Mayans were known for their advanced knowledge of astronomy, mathematics, medicine, architecture, engineering, and art. They created elaborate cities that are still standing today and left behind amazing carvings and sculptures. This video takes us to the heart of the mysterious city of Palenque, located in southern Mexico. Here we get a glimpse of just how much the people lived back then and how they supported themselves with no money or modern conveniences.
