Uplifting Books, Oils, and Stones for Fall Depression?

Post by missbelladonna »

Hi everyone!

I have seasonal affective disorder. My depression starts acting up this time of year. I was feeling kind of strange today, and I haven’t felt down like that in a while. I certainly think it could be normal or I may just be pmsing. I was looking for suggestions for some books that might be uplifting to read when I’m feeling down? I’m also thinking about getting an essential oil diffuser to try aromatherapy. Has anyone found any oils that uplift their mood?

Obviously, if things get out of hand, I’ll see my doctor. I was just a little down today and wanted some kind of plan for when it could happen again. I did my yoga and felt a bit better too.

Citrine is an awesome seasonal depression stone. Charge it in the Sun every few days.

For aromatics, cinnamon and frankincense.

What genre of books do you like?

I like the scents of lime & wintergreen, either alone or mixed in a simple diffuser (a bowl of water over a candle) & stay away from all books on esoteric occultism, history & suspense/murder mysteries that would be my normal reading. One of my favorite mood lifters is the Moose Path League series by Van Reid. Titles: 'Cordelia Underwood, Mollie Peer, Daniel Plainway, Mrs Roberto, Peter Loon, Fiddlers Green. And I wish he'd write more! Those old time bests like The Secret Garden & Robin Hood are great reading too & a good quality edition with illustrations is a luxuriant must! Also, When the loss-of-sunlite doldrums hit it's a good time to wash down & completely rearrange the altar. Use it as an expression of mood swings. Aaand a wee bit of light exercise to move the blood really lifts a mood.

Edit: as for stones I gravitate to a chunk of red Jasper and squeeze it giddy. Stone stroking is like therapy without the obnoxious bill.

Generally speaking, when I am having one of those days, light reading makes for the best distraction I think. I like to read lighthearted "girly" comics that are about high school romances or troublemaking friends. I'd recommend titles such as: "My Love Story", "Waiting for Spring", "Nana", or "L.DK". "Kiss of the Rose Princess" if you want a little more fantasy mixed in. It's an added bonus if its an author/artist whos beautiful artwork I enjoy. I also tend to navigate back to my favorite books which include: The Passion of Dolissa, Harry Potter, or if I need a good giggle I'll reread the first book in the Twilight series.

I agree that exercise helps a lot too during these times. I'll usually do some yoga, run, or start cranking up on ab-work.

What helps me is hematite, it grounds me very well - I combine it with citrine or clear quarz. Amber is a sun seine bringing positive energy I read somewhere, nur haven't felt it.

Fluorid feels energy shifting and neutralizes bad vibes. I have a few bigger ones to hold in your hand. Even my husband thinks it helps :fairy:

Bergamot is uplifting! You can combine it with orange and lime for a fresh summer breeze. Or wintergreen and orange.
For hard depressed feelings i lile using ylang ylang.

And get as much sun in your skin as possible

What helps me through the winter is being able to walk about 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week
It gets you out of the house and moving.

Hi everyone! I've been taking these tips a lot these days, and I'm feeling really really good. It's been really cold here which is unlike most years in Houston. There's something really beautiful about the season. I definitely feel a shift in energy, and I don't mind it all.

Seasonal spices

Post by Firebird »

Don't forget the seasonal spices!
Hildegard von Bingen has a recipe called "Cookies to prevent Sadness" it has a good amout of nutmeg in it!
Nutmeg is excellent along with cinnamon, cloves, allspice and ginger. All warming herbs. It would seem we get our "light" internally this time of year by utilizing these methods.
Corvidus mentions frankincense, that is an excellet resin to uplift the spirit (the churches knew this) I just got through bombing the house with it...pretty smoky in here but it feels good.
Also most stones in the warm spectrum of colors will help to maintain the light within. Citrine, orange calcite and carnealian are among the best. The color orange is documented in reducing sadness or the "blues" which I find fascinating because blue is opposite on the spectrum from orange. The sun is an orange ball of fire, and the orange glow of a fire or candles will also lend it's warming internal healing

Oh and orange food...try eating an orange and imagine it's lovely color bringing rejuvenation to you as you consume it.
