Types of protection spells.
So I'm new to Wicca (been studying for a little over a year) and I've never cast a spell, and recently I met another witch so I figured it would be smart to do a protection spell just in case she decides to try anything. So I'm not asking for a spell (because to many people do that and I believe it's a lot more complicated than someone giving you some words the rhyme mixed with a few herbs) just some ideas/tips for a first spell, in particular a protection spell. Nothing too big just as simple as possible. Thanks

Hi there Beginner. Nice to meet you. I have met exciting beautiful people in practice, and I have met some people that are drawn to power and energy. It's very important to listen to your gut. I work honestly and openly and constantly check in with my "spidey-sense". I for one make it a habit to be open to all, and trust that people show you who they are.
Dionysus very correctly said that there are many ways to protect and I agree it's good to know exactly what you are looking for.
In my opinion protection starts with you. I would worry less about an outward spell or incantation directed at a new person in your life then I would about starting with you and your basic cleanliness.
The way I personally go about it is by protecting and keeping myself spiritually healthy by grounding myself, cleansing myself spiritually, by checking in with my emotions, wearing or carrying a protective talisman (when needed) and keeping my personal living space clean physically and spiritually. Looking into "grounding" and spiritual "cleansing" are good places to begin. Being grounded is essential for good working and recovering from work, and cleansing skills are like good hygiene for practice. I think anyways....you are likely to need that skill soon anyhow...cleansing and dedicating new tools...crystals etc...
If you live relatively clean and respectfully-you're not likely to be a target for folks. There is very little someone can do to you unless they have a serious skill set and some questionable intention. That's a whole other ball of wax...I believe we are offered a lot of divine protection.
I'm not saying crazy stuff doesn't happen. It can, but I don't think that it's as common as you think. Take care of you keeping you and your space tidy and spiritually "clean" and you should be quite safe.
