The Witch's tools

THE WITCH:
You are the most magickal tool of all. It is your intentions and energies that determine the results of any magickal work. Many Witches never use any other tool but their own personal energies! And some of the most powerful workings can be done without ever leaving your armchair. It is the focus, concentration, intentions and desires that reside within YOU that are the real 'tools" of the Witch!

ATHAME: (pronounced "a-thAM-ay" or "ATH-a-may")
Many Witches own one or more ritual knives. These are commonly known as "athames" in Wiccan circles. In the Scottish traditions, the knife is called a "yag-dirk" and in Sax Wicca it is known as a "seax" (see-ax). As with all ritual tools, the athame is a very personal magickal item-one which you will want to take some care in obtaining. It should fit well and comfortably in your hand, for one thing. You certainly wouldn't want it to go flying across the room while you are casting a circle. This type of occurrence could cause a drastic drop in the attendance level at your next circle!
Many Witches make their own blades or "personalize" purchased ones with runes, carvings and other symbols; all of which serve to blend the energy of the tool with their own magickal intentions. Modern Witchcraft books almost always state that the athame is a "black handled double edged iron blade." You may call this model, "the classic', if you like! But many other practitioners now use athames made from stainless steel, copper, silver and various other metals, or even carved stone. Some have family heirlooms, such as letter openers which serve the purpose. Some Witches never use a blade at all! So you can see, it is more important that the tool you choose suits you personally rather than reflect the latest fashion craze.
The athame can be used to cast the magick circle, call the "quarters" or elements, and is part of many an opening ritual, handfasting (wedding) or initiation rite. It is associated with the element of Fire and the South. It is customary in some traditions to have your blade given to you as a gift. Some Witches or ceremonial workers give their tools a magickal "name". (This practice has become a common reference in many role playing games and fantasy novels.)
Almost all materials written state-and most Witches/Wiccans, with the possible exception of the Sax Wiccans, agree- that magickal tools should not be used for any other purpose than ritual work. Often the blade is left "dull" or unsharpened because of this. (Another blade, the "boleen", with a white handle is sometimes used to harvest herbs or carve symbols, but not used for ritual work.) Some Witches will not let their tools be touched by anyone other than themselves. Some covens or working groups share common tools. It is, other than for those who are dedicated into a specific Tradition, what you are comfortable with.

THE BROOM:
The broom or "besom" is used for cleansing ritual areas, hence the term "making a clean sweep". In handfasting rituals, couples often jump over the broom if they want children. (If you don't want children, DON'T JUMP! The combination of the "brush" and the handle are a very powerful fertility symbol.) Many Witches have a broom-brushy side up-by their door to protect the home from unwanted outside energies.

THE BELL:
Bells have been around for many years, they come in different shapes and sizes, as well as different tones and sounds. The most popular bell in the US is the liberty bell. Another popular bell is the Noter Dame bell found France. It is a wonder why we like these bell. It might just be the rhythmic sound and vibrations. People have been singing Songs and carols about this beautiful instruments for years, that might just be why there are associated with winter holidays. The bell also has magical associations. It has been believed for centuries to possess a magical and/or spiritual power. They are associated with the divine: their sound is symbolic of creative power, their shape a symbol of the female force and celestial vault. The bell is an uncommon tool. Yet, once you use it in a ritual, you might just feel the need to keep using it. There is no one way to use the bell, use your imagination! Here are a few ideas; you can use it to open and close the sacred circle, Invoke the Goddess, ring to ward off negative energies (as well as invite positive energies ), or use it to signal different sections of a ritual and/or Sabbat. But most of all have fun, create your own rituals using the bell! (bell thoughts submitted by Rain')

THE CAULDRON:
One of the most common symbols of Witchcraft, the cauldron was once found sitting by the fireplace in almost all homes. The cauldron-traditionally with three legs- represents bounty and blessings. In some Celtic Traditions, it is associated with otherworldly figures such as Bran the Blessed and the Goddess Cerridwen. Based on these myths, the cauldron has also come to represent the concept of reincarnation and the cycles of birth, death and rebirth. Many Witches believe in some form of reincarnation or the transmigration of souls.
Cauldrons can be used to represent water and used for scrying. It is sometimes used in association with elemental fire as well and small "bonfires" can be lit in them to burn spells or incense. Jumping over the cauldron has replaced the "bonfire" leap in modern times and urban spaces. It can, depending on intent and use, be placed in the Female West or Male South. Cauldrons range in size from the small altar models to the antique "floor" type. Many Witches have cauldrons in various sizes for different workings and purposes. Cats like to store their toys in them, too!

THE CHALICE:
The chalice or cup is used on the altar to represent the Female principle of Water. Another chalice or cauldron is sometimes placed in the West as well.
The chalice along with the athame, sword or wand are the modern tools which are used in the enactment of the "Great Rite"-the union of the male and female principle from which Life will spring.
Chalices may be of any material. Many use silver or pewter (be careful with untreated metals when serving wine), but ceramic ones are now quite popular and readily obtainable. Some Witches have many different kinds for different types of rituals. Many a practitioner will avoid real "lead" crystal because of the Saturn energy influence.
The chalice is sometimes passed around the circle so each participant may take a sip from the cup. This is a bonding experience and often the words "May you never thirst!" are passed throughout the circle with the chalice.
Libations of wine or water are often then poured outside to honor the Old Ones and "sabbat" cakes are also offered back to the Source in a similar manner.

THE CLOTHING MAGICKAL:
Clothing is "optional" for many Witches. If you are dedicated into a Tradition, you may practice "skyclad".
The clothing-robes, capes, jewelry and other items-used in ritual work is usually dedicated to only these uses. Having "special" garments lends an "otherworldly" feel and sets ritual work apart from mundane life.
Many traditions or paths have a "standard" wardrobe which reflects the ethnic background of that path. Scots may wear kilts and Druids may wear hooded robes. Many embroider magickal symbols on their ritual clothing or "hide" small magickal items in the seams and hems to act as talismans for protection.
For more information on robes, see below.

The PATON OR ALTAR PENTACLE:
The Altar pentacle is usually a disk or plate of metal or wood inscribed with the five pointed star in a circle. (See our pentacle section for more details on the pentagram and its meanings.) This is set upon the altar and used to consecrate various other tools and as a focal point of concentration for magickal workings. It is associated with the Female North and the element of Earth. Some Witches use a paton when calling in the elements as well.
Patons (sometimes "peytons" or "patens") can now be found made of ceramic and glass. You can even make your own from clay or simply draw and color one on stiff paper. In some references, it is stated that patons in the 'old days" were only made from disposable materials so that evidence of your beliefs could be quickly burned should the authorities come knocking at your door!

THE STAFF:
The staff is a very important tool in some traditions. It is used to mark quarter points or as a "stang" to hold banners representing elements or other unique symbolic flags.
The staff may be used in much the same manner as the wand. It is usually matched "to your measure"- which means it reaches to your shoulder- making it easy and comfortable for you to handle without either knocking yourself upside the head or having it trip you up from behind. Any such incident will amuse your friends, but do little to enhance your image in the magickal community!

THE SWORD:
With the coming of the modern "Celtic Revival", the sword has become a very popular-and quite showy- magickal tool. It can used in place of, or in addition to, the athame. Most groups who hold rituals indoors usually limit the use of the sword to just one for the Priest/Priestess. Ten five- foot swords in a small room could get a bit messy, I would think! However at festivals and outdoor rituals, Witches often bring their own swords to mark the boundaries or quarter points of the circle. There is now a growing interest in actual "sword play" and entire festivals have sprung up which feature events based on swordsman- or woman!-ship.

THE THURIBLE OR INCENSE BURNER:
A container used to contain a hot coal for burning incense. This is best made from a fire resistant or fire proof material. The most common are the "mini-cauldrons' of iron and the various brass types which come in wonderful shapes and sizes. Some even hang on a chain. The incense itself represents the element of Air while the fire (charcoal) represents Fire. The combination of these two elements are used to purify ritual areas, other tools or the circle itself.

THE WAND:
The wand represents the element of Air and the Male East. You can purchase a ready made one or collect one from your friendly neighborhood tree. (Ask first, if you want to harvest one from a living tree- and leave a small token of thanks.) Even dowels, such as those sold in hardware stores, can be painted and decorated quite beautifully.
The wand can be used to cast the circle or direct energy in other magickal ways, such as in spells and incantations. There are wands of glass, copper, silver and other metals, but the "classic" material is still wood. Various woods have different magickal associations and uses. It is very common for a "Wand Witch" to have many wands of various types in his/her magickal closet. Witches who do not use athames often use a wand instead.

THE ROBE
Many covens - and certainly the vast majority of Solitary Witches - work naked... referred to, in the Craft, as skyclad - "clad only by the sky". This certainly seems a preferred and recommended practice. But there are times when, perhaps due to temperature, you may wish to be robed. It may even be that you just prefer to be robed most of the time anyway...that's all right.
Robes can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. Here are instructions for making a simple one.
Any type of material will do, the choice is up to you - polyester (if you must!), silk, cotton, wool. Consider, though, its weight: will it he too heavy and hot, or too light and cool? Also consider how easily it creases and wrinkles. Will it stretch too much? Is it washable? Will it itch? Since Witches wear nothing under their robes, this last is a serious consideration!
Measure yourself from wrist to wrist, with arms outstretched, then from the nape of the neck to the ground. You will need to buy material of A width by twice B length. Take the material and fold it in half. If th material has an "outside" and an "inside", fold it inside out. Now cut out a piece from each side. You will be left with a more-or-less T shape.
The exact dimensions of the cuts will depend on you. Leave enough for a full sleeve at "X" but don't take it up to make it too tight under the arm at "Y". At "Z" cut an opening for your head. Sew where indicated : along the bottom of the sleeves and down the sides. All that remains is to turn it right side out again, try it on and hem it at a convenient length (e.g. an inch or so above the ground). It you wish to add a cowl -hood there will he plenty of material available from that initially cut off. Either a pointed or a rounded hood is appropriate.
Think carefully about the color of your robe. It used to be that most Witches wore white robes, but more colors are appearing at festivals. In Saxon Witchcraft, the priestess wears either white, purple or deep green and the others wear greens, browns, yellows and blues. Though this is not a hard and fast rule. Combination s of colors can be attractive, of course, as can a basic trimmed with silver or gold, or with a second color. Some few Witches do wear black but, while acknowledging it to be a very "powerful" color (in fact noncolor). Buckland personally thinks that it plays up to the misconception of equating Witchcraft with Satanism and, if only for that reason, should be avoided. We are a religion of Nature, so let's use the colors of Nature.. the bright and the somber earth colors (there is actually very little black to be found in nature). But again, in the last instance it is your choice.

ROBE COLORS

YELLOW is an excellent color for those involved with divination.

PURPLE is favored for those who work with pure divine power (magician's) or who wish to deepen their spiritual awareness of the Goddess & God.

BLUE suited for healers & those who work with their psychic awareness or for attuning with the Goddess in Her Oceanic aspect.

GREEN empowers herbalists & maqickal ecologists.

BROWN worn by those who attune with animals or who casts spells for them.

WHITE symbolizes purification & pure spirituality, & also is perfect for meditation and cleansing rituals. It is warn for Full Moon celebrations or to attune with the Goddess

ORANGE or RED robes can be worn to Sabbats, for protective rites or when attuning with the God in his fiery solar aspect.

BLACK robes are quiet popular. Contrary to popular misconceptions, black doesn't symbolize evil. It is the absence of color. It is a protective hue & symbolizes the night - the universe & a lack of falsehood. When a Wiccan wears a black robe, she or he is donning the blackness of outer space - symbolically, the ultimate source of divine energy.

Consecration and Dedication of ritual tools

Before these assembled spirits I bring (name type of tool) to be dedicated to the service of the Lady and Lord.

(Pass tool three times through smoke of the incense.)

By the power of air, be thou purified. Be thou dedicated to purity of thought and to harmlessness that all intentions for which thou art used may harm none and be for the good of all.

(Pass tool three times through or over the flame of the fire candle.)

By the power of fire, be thou purified. Be thou dedicated to purity of desire and to harmlessness that all goals which thou doest help achieve may harm none and be for the good of all.

(Take a few drops of water and sprinkle or dab on instrument.)

By the power of water, be thou purified. Be thou dedicated to purity of emotion and to harmlessness that all that thou shalt be used in a spirit of harmony, harming none and for the good of all.

(Touch instrument to the stone or salt in north quarter)

By the power of earth, be thou purified. Be thou dedicated to steadfastness and purity of purpose, that my will be achieved without wavering, with harm to none and for the good of all.

(If this is a chalice, present it first to the Lady, then to the Lord, if athame, reverse order. All other instruments use personal preference, but it is courtesy to present them to Her first.)
PRESENTATION FOR CHALICE:

Lady Cerridwen, Keeper of Femininity, bless this chalice. Let it be as Thy cauldron, a vessel of productivity that it may be worthy to dispense Thy bounty. Let it be used in Thy service and in the service of humanity. Let it be so bound that no harm may come of it to any being, but let it rather be an instrument of goodwill and understanding; of loving harmony. To Thy sacred self I dedicate this vessel, (name of vessel), that it and I may long be of service to Thee.

Lord Cernunnos, companion to the Lady, The Wild Stag, bless this chalice and keep watch over it. Guard the works which come forth from it, that they ever be in the service of Thee and Thy Lady, that they be of service to humankind, and that they abide by the laws of harmony. To Thee I vow I shall use it for Her sacred purposes, and for no other.
So mote it be.

PRESENTATION FOR ATHAME:
Lord Cernunnos, The Wild Stag and Lord of the forests, bless this athame. Let it be as the spring rains which fall upon the Earth to cause Her to bring forth Her bounty.

Let it quicken my hopes and dreams, yet keep them from causing harm. Let it guide them in the harmony of the seasons, bringing forth only good for all. Lord Thor, bless this athame, (name of athame), that it be used ever in the worship and honor of the Gods.

Lady Cerridwen, Keeper of the Cauldron of Knowledge, bless this athame that it shall bring forth joy, and shall cause no pain nor disharmony to any. I dedicate this athame (name athame), symbol of The Stag's Horn, to Thy service. May it ever bring Thee joy and pride.
So mote it be.

(This ritual, with suitable changes, may be used to dedicate other tools as well as these.)

2. Light the black candle and say
"Hecate, Goddess of Night Black,
I call you here to send all ill back."
Light the incense.
3.Look into the mirror and say:
"You cannot see me
You cannot hear me
You do not want me
Now let me be"
4. Smudge the mirror with the incense.
5. Face the mirror away from you and say:
"All ill you place on me
turns it sights back to you.
By the power of three times three,
To you, your bane sticks like glue."
6. Break the mirror while invisioning all of their evil spells turning back toward them.
7. Take a shard of the broken mirror and sweep the rest into a pile.
8. With the shard not facing you, use the ribbon or yarn to make a necklace.
9. Wipe a bit of the 4 Thieves Vinegar on the front and back of the mirror. Now say:
"Every time you look my way,
This spell will keep you evil at bay.
The Dark Goddess Hecate protects me,
This is my will, so mote it be."
10. Bury the rest of the mirror in the south corner of your home.

*Four Thieves Vinegar-The primary purpose of Four Thieves Vinegar is to provide personal protection from disease and magical attack, especially if the attack is ongoing and looks to continue for a time. In addition, it is used to strengthen you and weaken your enemies while you work to drive away unwanted people or to make a family quarrel and fall out among themselves.

Drink it by the teaspoonful, use it in salad dressing, or even add a spoonful to your bath water for personal protection. Sprinkle or dash it against an enemy's doorsteps or serve it to an enemy as a condiment to protect yourself while you lay other tricks get them out of your life.

Recipes for this formula vary quite a bit. I was taught that it must have four spices in the vinegar, one for each thief, and that is the way I prepare it.
According to John M. Hansen, the original recipe for Four Thieves Vinegar dates to the 15th century in Italy and consists of garlic steeped in soured red wine. Based on his own family's experience, John says that, "As an inoculation against epidemic diseases it actually works. Its use in magic came about much later; as with many other substances it became useful in the magical arts."

Barbara Griffith presents a variation of the formula which she says is "from a 1965 reprint of an old Southern cookbook, "Housekeeping in Old Virginia," originally published 1879."

Says Barbara, "In the chapter on the sick room, the following recipe is given for 'Thieves Vinegar.' No instructions were given as to its use - you were supposed to know:

'A handful of sage and the same of mint, tansy, rue, rosemary, lavender, and thyme; one ounce of camphor. Put in demijohn, and fill with good vinegar. Set in the sun two weeks with a piece of leather over the mouth, and then stop nightly. - Mrs. D. R.'"
That is a wonderful variation, and again demonstrates the antiquity of this recipe. However, because it includes Rue and Camphor, the "Old Virginia" version would not be suitable to use as a salad dressing, but would make an excellent body-wash and rub-down in the sick-room.

The recipe that I use is this:
Rosemary
Oregano
Cloves
Garlic
Black Pepper
Cayenne
Lavender

But you may use any healing/banishing herbs that you wish, just remember to steep them in Apple Cider Vinegar as this is an organic vinegar.

To Decide between lovers
You will need:
A glass bowl
13 pebbles found in your area
water to fill the bowl
rose petals to cover water in the bowl
red paint
1 red, pink or white candle
Timing: Best cast on a Friday for love or Monday for divination
1. Paint the name of one lover on 6 of the pebbles and the other lover of 6 of the pebbles, leaving one blank, visualising each of the lovers while you write their names. The blank stone will symbolize to meditate on this for 1 week and return to the spell later.
2. Light the candle and say: "Aphrodite, Goddess of love, help me in this decision between lovers"
3. Mix the stones around and place them in the bowl. Cover these with the water and pour the rose petals over this so you cannot see the names on the stones.
4. Place your palm over the bowl and say:
"To reach within me
to take a side
to use this knowledge
and to decide..."
5. Pull out a stone. This is the best decision to make.

TO MAKE A LOVER LEAVE
The following is an effective and simple spell to encourage the end of a relationship
if you are no longer interested in the person as a lover.
You will need:
a black candle
a white candle
salt
water
dragon's blood incense
and a picture of the person you wish to end the relationship with.
It also helps if you have something of theirs (a ring, watch, etc. that they will wear at a later
time, and wear often).

Arrange all these items on a table or altar somewhere quiet that you will not be disturbed.
Write your name and his side by side on a piece of paper.
Before casting this spell, it is important that you realize the meaning behind the various things involved.
Each item represents something, and all four elements (earth, air, fire and water) are also represented.
(1) The white candle represents good will, as you do not wish the person any harm,
you are just no longer interested in a lover's relationship with them.
(2) The black candle represents 'ending' or 'finality'.
This signifies the ending of the relationship as it currently is.
** Both candles represent the element of fire.
The dragon's blood incense represents the element air.
The bowl of water represents the element of water.
The salt sprinkled around your table represents the element of earth.
The picture and personal items from the person help you to concentrate on the person,
and the item that they might wear later will further infuse them with the power of the spell.

To cast the spell:
Light the candles and incense, going around the table from North to West to South to East
(this represents diminishment or decrease, and you wish to decrease the love binding you
and your boyfriend/girlfriend.)
Cast a circle, paying tribute to the lord/lady/dragon/guardian of each of the watchtowers,
again going from NWSE in direction.

Repeat the following chant 3 times, and on the third time tear the paper that you've written
your names on in half.
"O fire and flame of candle dark, I call your power to free his/her heart.
As I tear this paper with our names inscribed, separate his/her (name) love from me apart.
Bring to him/her not one ounce of charm, but fall him/her to another's charms.
Nevermore as lovers shall we two be, but forever in friendship may we meet.
As I will it, so mote it be."

Take the two pieces of paper with the names, and burn yours in the flame of the white
candle, and burn his/hers in the flame with the black candle - when they burn down far
enough that you can't hold them any longer, drop them in the bowl of water.

Ground the power and close the circle! This is very important. I usually do this by turning
my palms downward and saying:
"Circle open, but not broken - power down, to the ground".
The spell is finished, except that you must allow both the white and black candles to
burn completely down.
If you like, you can take a small silk purse or felt bag and place the burnt pieces of paper, ashes from the incense, salt from the table or altar's surface, and a few drops of water from the bowl in the bag and keep it until you are certain the spell has worked. It also works well if you write the spell on parchment paper, sprinkle some of the ashes on the paper then fold it so none of the ashes can fall out and seal the fold of the paper with wax dripped from both candles.

Fresh start spell
You will need:
A small quantity of seeds (any seeds will do, flower, vegetable, fruit, etc)
A small garden spade for digging a small hole
A Gold candle
A dried leaf from any plant
Coarsely ground eggshell
A piece of paper (notebook or typing paper is fine)
A short length of natural twine

This spell is best when worked in the morning, at sunrise or shortly thereafter.
Light your candle and place it on a flat surface, such as a table top. Lay the piece of paper on the table. Place the seeds, the leaf and the ground eggshell in the center of the paper.

Speak these words aloud:

''Life and death, Start to end,
New beginnings, be a friend.
Bring good fortune, Now to me,
For that which is and that to be''.

Fold the seeds, leaf and eggshell in the paper, forming a small packet. Tie the packet securely with the twine. Extinguish the candle.

Find a quiet place in the yard or garden and with your garden spade, dig a small hole, roughly ten inches deep. Place the packet in the hole. Cover the packet with dirt and fill the hole. Do not remove the packet from the ground.

ARTISTIC INSPIRATION

Prepare:

Pen, pencil or paintbrush (depending on the art form)
Elmer's glue
Silver glitter
Almond, sage or vanilla essential oil
A white candle

This is a simple spell to bring you divine inspiration to write and create
visual art.

Anoint the candle with the essential oil you have chosen and using an athame or
a small, sharp tool, inscribe the name "Brighid" (goddess of poetic
inspiration), or if you prefer not to invoke a deity, simply inscribe your art
form which you need inspiration in. Light your candle and begin.

Squeeze some glue onto a piece of scrap paper and dip the end (not the useable
part) of your craft tool into it, covering about an inch deep. Then roll the end
in the glitter so that it is completely covered. As you do, focus on the
inspiration you seek. Say your own blessing over the tool, then situate it so
that it can dry without the glittered end getting smashed. The next day, make a
few attempts at your art with your newly enchanted tool in hand. Let the
inspiration come to you and flow from your mind to your material.

A Mirror Spell Of Protection For The Home

Compose an altar: place a censer in the center before an image of the Goddess.
Have a twelve-inch (or so) round mirror there as well. Ring the altar with nine
white candles. Burn a protective incense (such as sandalwood, frankincense,
copal or rosemary) in the censer. Beginning with the candle most directly before
the Goddess image, say these or similar words:

Lunar light protect me!

Repeat as you light each candle until all are glowing.
Now, holding the mirror, invoke the Goddess in Her lunar aspect with these or
similar words:

Great Goddess of the Lunar Light
and Mistress of the Seas;
Great Goddess of the Mystic Night
and of the Mysteries;
Within this place of candles bright
and with Your mirror nigh;
Protect me with Your awesome might
while ill vibrations fly!

Standing before the altar, hold the mirror facing the candles so that it
reflects their flames. Keeping the mirror toward the candles, move slowly,
clockwise, around the altar, watching the reflected firelight bouncing off your
surroundings.

Gradually increase your speed, mentally invoking the Goddess to protect you.
Move faster and faster; watch the light shattering the air, cleansing it,
burning away all negativity and all lines along which the ill energies have
traveled into your home.

Charge your home with the protective light of the Goddess. Race around the
candles until you've felt the atmosphere change, until you feel that your home
has been cleansed and guarded by the Great Goddess.

When finished, stand once again before the image. Thank the Goddess in any words
you wish. Pinch out the candles one by one, bind them together with white cord
and store them in a safe place until (and if) you need to use them again for
this same purpose.

MOJO BAG TO WIN IN COURT

Burn dried Galangal roots every night at midnight for two weeks in a row before
your court date.

On the night before going to court, put the ashes in a green flannel mojo bag
along with a shark's tooth and a piece of turquoise upon which your full name
and birthdate and the sacred Pagan symbol of the pentagram has been inscribed.

Seal the bag; consecrate and charge it, and then wear or carry it to the
courtroom to gain a favorable decision.

13 teaspoons clear alcohol

It takes quite a while to get enough lampblack to make your ink. Steep the powdered lampblack in the alcohol until dissolved, then add the Gum Arabic to thicken to an "inky" texture. Store in a glass bottle, shake before use.

Lampblack ink adds extra power to any spell. Particularly useful for wisdom and knowledge spells, making this an excellent ink for writing in a witch's book of shadows. You can also charge Lampblack ink with specific intent by coordinating the color of the candle used to create the Lampblack soot.

To pass an exam: You will need: A sprig of rosemary, a couple mint leaves, 1/2 cup grape juice, 1/2 cup of spring water, a chalice or glass, yellow candle Mix the grape juice and water together, add the herbs and muddle (you can do this with a silver tone spoon). After muddling (you'll be able to smell the herbs) light the yellow candle and say: Cerridwen, Crone of the Cauldron of Knowledge, I call you to this circle. Raise your glass to the east and say "My skills are good, my knowledge great, the results I want are mine to take" Kiss the glass 10 times and drink the potion. Do this the night prior and the morning of your exam.

To help with study:
Anoint two yellow candles with lemon oil and light them. Take a citrine quartz,
anoint with lemon oil also, and place in front of the candles so that the
candlelight shines on it. Chant the following:

"Charge the stone with candle light
To fill my mind with wisdom bright
To keep my mind alert and clear
So that no thought can interfere
With the process of my brain
So what I read is knowledge gained
For all my life to stay with me
This is my will, so mote it be!"

Let the candles burn and charge the stone while you study. Keep the stone with
you when you need to give papers, take exams or study.
