Sevenfold pentagram drawing tutorial

Post by L.J.Hex »

Sevenfold pentagram tutorial part 1

The sevenfold pentagram is my own creation, or at least I haven't seen the same thing done with pentagrams before. Its rather simple idea of combining several pentagrams with two larger ones in the middle and five more surrounding it. Parts of the small ones make the largest one. I mostly use it for artistic and symbolic purposes only, but it can be incorporated to spellwork when ever you need a sort of reinforced pentagram, or one which has multiple meanings/uses. I tend to think the numbers as the two large ones representing duality, female/masculine, might/day, summer/winter. The five smaller ones represent the four elements and aether. Or four represent the elements and the rest the triple goddess.

Proportions of a pentagram follow the Fibonacci sequence, the golden ratio which is found all over in the nature, from swirl of galaxies, to petals of flower to human body ratios. Its very simple math, this pentagram can be drawn in any size when you know the sequence. 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 etc.

The one I use for my Book of Shadows is made using two pentacle templates, the smaller being 7cm diameter and the larger 10cm. Any size goes as long as the ratio stays the same. You will get the ratio always right by multiplying the diameter of the smaller one by 1,44. I made templates from stiff paper so I don't need to start measuring and counting every time I need to draw one. Then make a small hole in the center so they're easier to align and you'll get the center spot perfectly every time.

Then you need a pen and little patience. :) Part 2 coming up in a minute.

Sevenfold pentagram tutorial part 2

1. Draw the larger pentagram, best way is to just mark the spots and then draw the lines. Mark the center too if you wish.

2. Draw the small pentagrams. This is where you need the small template to have the tiny hole in the center, makes it far more easy to place it correctly. The easiest way is to mark the ends of the stars first for each of them. Remember to keep the template facing perfectly upright.

3. Draw all the lines, as you can see, I screwed up a bit, pay attention. :D

4. Combine the inner ends of the small pentagrams, draw a circle if you like and you're done.

Yes patience. :fairy:

:D So there you go guys, now go make your own!

Here's something I made for my BoS, its just an artwork at the end of the section about the pentagram. With colors and bit of imagination you can turn this thing into variety of pretty pictures. And don't forget the magical uses if you got the patience to make such an elaborate symbol for your rituals and spells.

so, would 6 and 9 inches work?

Any size with this ratio will work. You can get this by taking any measurement for the smaller one and then multiply it by 1,44 and that's it. :D Easy as pie as 144 is one of the FIbonacci numbers and pentagram follows the ratio perfectly.

Example: 7cm = 2,75" 7 x 1,44 = 10,08cm or 3,93"

My templates are almost one millimeter off the mark, but it works well enough. The closer of the perfect ratio you get, easier it is to draw it right of course.

Wait a minute, does that work with Fibonacci sequence? My math mind is rusty as heck excluding the usual numerology and simple gematria.

So cool L. J. Hex!! I have been trying to figure out how to draw a sevenfold pentagram with much frustration! I wish I could see the images, but unfortunately it doesn't work on my phone!

You can also make a seven-pointed star ... heptagram.

Sorry I was always dull with Fibonacci thing, might be interesting too.

Right... It looks like the hosting site has f'd things up. :( It might be that all of my pictures hosted there are gone. I haven't used it for a while, I haven't had time to stop by in here either. Well now I do. I'll have to see what I can do, perhaps upload the pics on photobucket or some other hosting site. I think the one I used removes pictures after a certain period or something like that.

I will fix this when I have time for it!
