I'm on the verge of another breakdown...

My wife and I are about to move to Idaho, and I have to leave my dog behind. Ariel has been my baby for 5 years. She's a retriever/wolf mix. I have to leave her with my parents because of her seizures since we can't afford her meds. I know it's the right thing to do but it tears my soul in two knowing I'll be leaving my child behind. That's exactly what she is to me is a child. She's never spent more than three days away from me. I'm afraid I'm gonna have a nervous breakdown again and cut again. Last time was 177 cuts. My wife had trouble stopping the bleeding and it's only getting worse each time. I just don't know what to do anymore. I've been fighting off crying all day over this. It's just so tiring and I can't keep it up. I know I can. I know I will end up suicidal again if I can't do something about it. I know I will.

I was wondering...if you parents will pay for her meds because she is staying with them, would they pay for the meds if Ariel came with you two to Idaho???

Unfortunately no. My mom's retired and my dad is disabled so they'd want me to take over that cost. They're really pinching pennies keeping her for me. I'd die if she went to a pound or a kill shelter.

How is it that they can take care of her if you left her, but not if you took her?
I also wonder about the drug companies...have you tried to call and see if they could help? There are all kinds of financial aids around, I don't see why you should have to leave her behind. Check in the city in Idaho where you would live and see if there is any assistance there also. I had a ferret once that needed surgery, there was no way I could afford it. I called this place called 'actors for animals' and they paid for the whole thing. Please check all your options before you give up...Stay positive, it sounds like you need to take this dog with you.

We talked last night about things. As much as it is heartbreaking to leave my baby behind, she will have a better life here than with me right now. It's a hard decision to make, but I believe in my heart it was the right decision.
