If you ever come to visit or, god-forbid, decide to live here, here are some fashionable respirator options. Seriously though, this is kind of sad and disturbing. In the American Lung Association's 2013 ratings of the "Top 10 most polluted cities in America", California not only consistently made the top of the list for each parameter, but several other spots in each list as well. So, my state of residence has to be the most filthiest state in the Union. Great.

The methane produced by this 237-acre landfill in Altamont, CA, is
converted into fuel, which then runs the 300 trash trucks that deliver
more trash to the landfill. I'm sure that makes sense, somehow.

Drought Linked to Polluted Winter Air

Lack of rainfall, along with low winds and stagnant conditions that trapped pollution near the ground, contributed to increase in soot, officials say. California's parched winter brought a big surge in air pollution, pushing the number of bad air days one-third higher than the previous winter and posing a serious health threat, state air quality officials said Tuesday.

Levels of haze-forming soot typically increase in winter, but this year was worse because of the persistent lack of rainfall, low winds and unusually stagnant conditions that trapped pollution close to the ground.



Nothing would make me happier than if we turned this around, to Heal This Land...our home and divine expression of Goddess energy.

Ugh, ....was real sad to see Paso Robles on the list

Re:oil spill,....And this area already has regular tar on the beach. ..all the way through Santa Barbara. Surely did not need this mess to add to it, the innocent animals affected is maddening.

Do you know if the rates are compared to the data from the 60's and 70's? I remember the smog being horrendous then. It seems minorly better now.
Recently I caught a rerun of Gunsmoke, which was filmed in the area, and MAN...the smog is crazy.
