Protection charm

Post by Evanthe »

Here's protection charm I made for a friend.

Image

I'm not big on long, complex rhyming spells. I'm more direct and to the point. Often, I'll choose the appropriate incense and colors and set a mood for making my magic, and then spend some time focusing on what my intent is.

For this project, I made a protection charm for a friend who is having a very difficult pregnancy. I've carried her and the baby in my heart for a awhile and then was ready to create. This little bottle is filled with the following:

Lavender - protects home, marriage. This came from my garden.
Lemongrass - draws good luck while protecting from evil.
Angelica Root-  purifies home, protects babies, and mothers.
Basil - family protection & happiness, drives away evil.
Spider - see below.
Turquoise chip - luck, love, protection, and healing.
Amethyst chip - power, protection, and healing.

The actual meaning of a spider is profound and covers many areas. For this charm I focused on the properties of female, creation, protection and fate. Because ultimately, we have to come to terms with what has to be. I should note that I do not harm the insects. I keep an eye out and gather when I find them after they have left their bodies. Yes, even spiders have a place here and I don't want to disturb their lives.

I translated "protect the wearer" and "mother and baby" in to Latin using Google's translator. Then I wrote it on a tiny piece of very old paper and added it to the bottle. Then the bottle was decorated with with red glass beads for energizing my charm and the wearer. Then I added the following:

A butterfly charm for:
Resurrection
Transition
Celebration
Lightness
Time
Soul
The owl for:
Wisdom
Transition
Messages
Intelligence
Mysticism
Protection
And finally, the waning moon to remove negativity, in this case the illness effecting both the mother and baby.

So there you have it. It's little charm that packs a wallop of energy for the wearer. The process of making this charm was the ritual. That's how I create my magic.

Most of the supplies came from thrift stores or yard sales. I think I bought the charms on Etsy. I'm tend to collect things that spark ideas and put aside for later.

Thanks!
