if your rose quartz is losing color it was most likely a dyed quartz. no need to get a new one, it still has the same potential to carry on how a natural rose quartz would, a regular quartz is a stone that is programable. its also possible that perhaps the dye was to only enhance the natural color of the rose quartz because its pink was pale pale pink.
For me, its always Quartz, Orange Calcite, Amythest, and Hematite. I also strongly recommend variations of Quartz(Rose, Smoky), Lapis, and Obsidian. Be careful with Obsidian. Its energies are very strong and direct and can be overwhelming to some.
Best thing to do is to think about what you need the crystal for and then consult a correspondance table. I use selenite on a daily basis because its properties help me to keep a positive outlook. But if you already have a positive outlook then that might not be the stone for you. Its a very personal thing. Clear quartz is the best all rounder and can be used in place of some of the more expensive crystals. (I mean - good luck with buying diamonds and sapphires - lol)
I didn't write this, its copied and pasted from somewhere and has found its way into my book of shadows. But its a good basic guide on the properties of some of the popular crystals.
My firm favourites are: Mahogany Obsidian, Opal (its my birth stone), Tigers eye, Citrine, Clear Quartz, and Amethyst. Though I am drawn to other ones at different stages of my life.
My soul is awakened, my spirit is soaring. And carried aloft on the wings of the breeze. For above and around me the wild wind is roaring. Arousing to rapture the earth and the seas.
If was stranded on an island and could have only 3 stones with me, they would be:
1) Moldavite
2) Azeztulite
3) Ajoite/Papagoite
And I would use the powers of these stones to find me some good 'ol Carnelian, Rose Quartz, and Smokey Quartz while on the island.
