Whilst half viewing a youtube video about Maya and Aztec history and crafting at same time , green obsidian was mentioned.
Tried google searches to buy some online, but no luck so far. Anyone know a reliable place to buy this?
I know they used a lot of jade in their work too.
Am completely unfamiliar with green obsidian and in a search, so much of it looked like green glass...I have a feeling that is not it. So it will be interesting to see if anyone else knows more about this stone.
Ed! you out there??

Maybe a reliable online shop in Mexico. Will try to search that tomorrow.Yes it looks like green glass so do not want fake imitation. I have a piece of black obsidian from years ago , when I was still able to visit and shop at rock/mineral shows.
The green obsidian is found in only one place that I know of, and it's a very small "mine" discovered by the Aztecs. It was rare even in antiquity, and I believe the site is on protected government land in Mexico. Be very wary when trying to buy a piece. I've seen everything from remelted old Coke bottle glass to green goldstone offered as "genuine" green obsidian!
Just my $0.02 worth.....

something Wiccan this way comes!
Ok, good to know.
Does anyone have a picture that defines it positively?
If it is the sparkling clear green, that reminds me of the stone that is being made out of the ash of the Mt Saint Helen's explosive debris. Accidentally discovered when a guy took his welding torch to some of the ash...wow, pretty green! I forget the name though right now.
The rainbow variety of obsidian has green in it Nerys, maybe if you need a substitute that would work?
This is a picture of my rough green obsidian from Central Mexico. I bought it from on old man who ran a stone and mineral business from his house. He had some nice carvings in green obsidian but they were expensive. My green obsidian carving I bought from artisans in San Juan Teotihuacan, the city closes to the Teotihuacan ruins. It was priced lower because the seller needed money.
