Forum Upgrades / Moving Hosts

(My original post was about closing the forum. The conversation changed...)

Hey guys. I'm most likely going to close the forum soon. I was thinking I might leave it online as a resource (if that's possible without getting hacked), but it would be closed to new posts and members.

I created a Facebook group so you all can get together there if you want to. That's so much easier for me to manage and doesn't cost anything. Running a forum like this has been costing a lot of money (about $500 per year) because I have to expensive hosting or else the forum and website get hacked, which is a huge pain to deal with. I'm not good at keeping the forum software updated, which leaves us open to hackers.

The forum has been getting a handful of posts each day, so I know some people are still using it, but not really enough to warrant the cost incurred. My website doesn't make much money the way it used to, so I'm paying for this out of pocket.

Anyway, if you have anything to say or want to offer a different solution, please do so. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this community for so long. The Everything Under the Moon Facebook page is still up, but I haven't been posting to it. If someone thinks they'd like to help operate the page, you can get in touch with me. It has nearly half-a-million likes, so it's not too shabby for a pagan FB page. I wouldn't mind getting it going again, but I just don't have the energy to put into myself.

You guys have been awesome. Sorry to have to bring this particular party to a close, but hopefully we can keep it going elsewhere.

Bright blessings,

I am so sorry for this thing yet I always wondered what you were extracting from here since it has no banners.
Advertising banners calculator could make profit if frequency of visits is plentiful.
apart from calculation like this
one could add a slogan such as:
"I grew my knowledge by being open-minded, if you find my page of worth and the ad at ad banner at least a bit interesting, please click on it so as to support me and also give a chance to advertiser that he gets discovered.

In case you've a ton of views here you might hire a sponsor too. The world is locked now and focus on the internet grows, your site has now more quests here on a regular basis.

In case you proceed to do so, I'd like to ask if you'd fancy to open a twitter account too. Birds are a good symbol for communication via air just like the internet.

Blessed be much Heather and thank you :flyingwitch:

Um, I don't have facebook ...still :(
Can you do a fund raiser just to pay for it? I don't really know how 'it' (The computer world that is) all works. Could you do adds?
Could we brainstorm a bit before you make any irreversible decision?
This is hard news after Witchvox closed. And now that everyone is relegated to the home there may be a temporary uptick in activity. In any case I would like to copy for record some of the pages if that is possible, before it evaporates if that is what you choose to do.
Starwitch, it has been such an honor to be a part of this corner of the witch web world that you have created. :fairy: I would like to thank you for your vision and making a really lovely and comfortable place to be. Many other sites are full of rude and conflict creating people, so it has been real nice to be here. Hope it can continue!
Blessings, Firebird

Bless you, Starwitch for making this forum possible for so many for so long. I wish I had some fabulously brilliant suggestions but just now I’m dumb as a rock. ... love you all.
Spirit Talker

I tried about 10 times to create an account on Facebook & finally got in and read the EUTM rules. Rule #1 eliminates me. No Trump lovers allowed. I’m not far left or far right by my definition but I dunno about yours. I am a Patriot MAGA & Q-truther WWG1WGA & a Witch .

Well anyway, I’m in & hope to meet some others from here, but ... I dunno how FB works yet - it’s awful
Oh well, keep your wands up :wink2:

I'm sad, as this forum has helped me through some dark times. I have enjoyed my stay here. I understand that pouring money into a forum can become a financial hardship. I saw the post on Facebook. I'm weighing my options. I would like to see the forum stay available as a resource. I think we've helped people over the years.

Hi Starwitch, thank you for all your support for this amazing community over the years. I'm sorry to see it go, and I have made some amazing connections through it. It's been an honor to be a part of EUTM.

Star, when do you think the last day will be?

Between witchvox and this it’s a sad year for pagan sites...

Sadly I don't Facebook on principle: I think it's dishonest, corrupt and morally bankrupt. While it's true its cut me off from people over they years, it's not a decision I have ever regretted.

Thought about setting up a discord server instead?

Any idea on a timescale? There are people I would quite like to pm to create other avenues to keep in touch?

It's a great shame but frankly not an uncommon one - running a website is expensive and contributer downturn an inevitablity (most posts are mostly the same dedicated people contributing). It's always disjarring to those very same people. I've enjoyed my sojourn here and for that you have my gratitude... back to my original digital haunt it seems.

Oh no, not again.... Facebook groups are nothing compared to a forum, almost impossible to go back and search for stuff, here its way easier.

Any idea when EUTM will go offline? There's so much stuff here that I want to write down in my book, if all this just disappears, finding all the good stuff would be very difficult. I guess I'll try to copy as much as I can while there's still time. I have seen this same thing happen on many forums before and believe me how it sucks as I like forums over other platforms any time.

We should try to find a way to keep the forum as a resource in a way or another... Is there a way to make it into a readable offline version somehow? I know my previous band had this same issue years ago and we made a hard copy of all the posts there, but it wasn't readable as it were without some software or something.

There's so much good information and interesting read here that it would be a huge shame is it just disappears into the woodwork.

This is so sad! I was just getting started here, and I don't have Facebook (used to have an account, didn't like it, and I don't want it in my life again)...

I wonder if high hosting price is tailored on high storage. There is 25955 topics I'd suggest old stuff be cleansed with posts older than 2013... perhaps even 2014 being wiped out all except useful posts.
Also Video embeds into site be disabled somehow, leaving only links to click on and so... how much would it save space to reduce the price would be one thing to evaluate.

Understandable thing is the hacking protection.
I think it is not that far from being closed really.
Corbin - yeah facebook... gives you better sense of useful events around yet you keep chatting with a friend 3 hours straight instead of going out... gives you break/even to social and antisocial, lol ... not to mention things like all of you here say.

There is a harmony eye desires while watching pictures, if all is solely in cold colours eye gets irritated and craves to see some warm colours too, hence advertising banner of fiery colours would do the trick.
I'd be writing mails to big occult sites if they fancy a banner such as Llewelyn book publisher, prolly need some US based companies for banners... might even pay 1000bucks a year or more.

If you out-think how companies are click-bait desire fuelled for ad profit... traffic on internet is rather lively, impersonal thing of slightly cheerful nature and enthusiasm as people browse they are undergoing the adventure of discovering things.
Neon ads would disrupt concentration but that is not necessary, informing is good, manipulation less so, but if one wants to sell advertising as informing is perfectly sound. I'd look for symbiosis, embracing aforementioned.

At very least I think some topics from the craft 101 should be backed up and saved in some readable format... If this forum is just deleted, it would be a huge waste of useful information. How far the hosting has been paid for at the moment? It would be very good to at least know how much time there is to save all the good information.

I would say that the facebook group is a decent stop gap measure, but its certainly not on par with the forum. Internet forums are starting to be relics, but there's some good sides that you can't have with fb group only. Easy access to old topics comes to mind first. And the actual in depth conversation which doesn't happen on facebook.

Thank you for keeping this place for us for so long, Star! It's been a pleasure and an honour to be a part of it! I too hope there will be a way of keeping the information up somehow.
I'll definitely miss all of you, folks!
