How to find local witches

Post by Ashrend »

I'm curious how others have found more of their kin as I'm struggling to find anything online either on meetup or witchvox . Nothing coming up on google and I don't have the local connections to find others like minded.

I can only repeat a suggestion to ask about open meet ups at local shops. College towns have more options and advertising. I don't know about your area, but where I live the book stores and broader minded news stands display free ads and pagan press. Ads appear in the backs of some psychic & pagan-themed magazines carried at standard book shops. Most public festivals take "enrollments" so have to advertise in winter/spring editions for coming summer events.

I wear a small pendant of Rowan with a protection rune burnt on one side and a pentagram on the other. Every time I have met another spiritual traveler, it is because that pendant was noticed, and inquired about. You would think that a piece of wood worn by a Native guy wouldn't get a second glance. My humble observation is that like attracts like. SpiritTalker and Danmagnamius offer excellent suggestions along these lines. Be open and friendly. I met my bride at a rock and gem show many years ago. I noticed her surreal beauty, she noticed my pendant. I have to think the Goddess has a sense of humor...

I wear a pentagram around my neck in plain sight but there aren't many pagans in my area, love in north Devon so it's a little bit more remote than what I would desire. Il look into my local occult shop and see what I can attend

How far are you from Boscastle's Witchcraft Museum? Mightn't there be some resources there?

If I drove that would be great but I sadly do not, my own two legs or public transport is how I travel about

I'm hoping it'll be productive to add this here because I didn't want to start a whole new thread so my question is, how do you go about asking someone you already know about where they stand. My daughter is in Kindegarten and one of her friend's mothers is clearly some sort of witch. I don't have much in common with her my knowledge but I believe we could and I'd really like to approach her but I have no idea how to. Any insight would be helpful.

May be worth hooking up with the Dolmen Grove on facebook? Sadly their website is down at the moment (sure they had a forum ???).

-----

The Dolmen Grove is a non profit organisation of mixed spiritual paths established in the early 90s by Taloch Jameson, which over the years has grown from one small circle in Weymouth Dorset, to several clans not only across the UK but worldwide.

The Spiritual Ethos of the Dolmen Grove has remained the same throughout and is based purely upon the Freedom of the Individual.

It is the collective belief that in an age where technology can often dwarf our humanity, it is important that we take control as individuals and embrace our own spirituality in order to maintain the equilibrium within an ever changing world.

Although the Grove is not a political organisation preferring instead to focus upon the spiritual, this does not prevent either individual members or the Grove as a collective from playing an active part in humanitarian and environmental issues.

There are no hierarchy or titles within the Dolmen Grove as it is our aim to encourage each man and woman to discover their own unique and authentic journey so that their spiritual connection is founded upon that which works for them as an individual rather than a spiritual rule book set for the masses.

The key to our success is the Round Table which is made up of around twenty people from a variety of spiritual paths who uphold the spiritual ethos of the Grove. They not only organise their respective moots but also the festivals and events hosted by the Dolmen Grove.
Our Moots are regular meeting places which are held once a month in several areas. Although these are organised by and largely attended by Grove members, non members are always welcome to find out more about the Grove and enjoy the company of other free thinking people as well as the activities organised by the Moot.
There is a membership in place that enables those who wish to be part of this ever growing Clan to enjoy reduced ticket prices for Dolmen Grove Events, festivals and where stated ‘member only’ Ceremonies and Courses. Although we host many Ceremonies which are open to the general public, to avoid press as well as over crowding we also hold member only ceremonies.

‘All are spiritually united within the Dolmen Grove.’

I would say just go to her and ask, no point playing coy or dodging the question. Just go to her and ask are you a spiritualist of some type?

A lot of us don't advertise for obvious reasons of discrimination or ridicule. If you are open about your own interests when asking it let's them know they are with a witch-friendly person. You say you've noticed she is "clearly some sort of witch", so you might ask about one of her obvious tips-offs, saying something like " I've noticed such n such about you. I'm interested in the craft & wondered if by such n such you are too?" Any witch will know what the craft is. Avoid the W-word if you can be overheard.

Being in the Bible Belt, I don’t know anyone. But this one person told me something along the lines about being a pagan. I don’t remember it exactly but I am nervous to ask. I would like to discuss stuff but the fear of being judged or rejected from a coven hangs over me.

Don't expect 'em to volunteer more of a lead. They're probably as nervous as you are. The open meet ups have to be advertised somewhere. Where's a likely place? Around here, there's a group that meets at Denny's Restraunt 1st Sat of the month for breakfast. Very ordinary.

I understand the OMG WhatDoISay? panic. My next door neighbor asked if I was one (hush voiced with a swish & flick gesture) and I mentally froze. I could feel my face reddening, and confessed I'd "practiced the Craft". She grinned and said "me too". PTL! My knees creaked

No, we are not suddenly running back and forth exchanging spell recipes. But we smile when we see each other taking out the cans on trash day.
