This might be a foolish question, but is a rainbow boa actually rainbow?

While I feel in general most magick is not like it is portrayed in most fiction, I do think when you do dream working in the other world these laws do not apply so much. What I mean is when working in your dreams, you can do those impossible stints for a few reasons. Such as the other worldly laws are beyond physical limitations and willing it with your mind.
I am the Earth, The Sun and the Stars
And I am the also the Moon
I am all animal and birds,
And I am the outcast as well, and the thief
I am the low person of dreadful deeds,
And the great person of excellent deeds
I am Female. I am Male and I am Neuter.

I can't even get close enough to kill one. I'm perfectly aware there is nothing they can do to me (there are very few poisonous spiders in Bulgaria, none of which is really dangerous, I'm talking the small house spiders here  ), still even talking about them gives me chills.
Snakes I like, I used to take pictures with a 2 m long python and found her lovely, but that's not really the case with all people.
I'm cautious with snakes but spiders are awesome! They eat bugs! I just ignore them, and they ignore me. I only get them in the house if it rains, but between my two small dogs and my cat in the garage, I don't see too many.

When I was a kid we always had these guys hanging around. We called them banana spiders. Harmless apparently, I took one out of a web once and held it in my hand and it did not bite me, I was young, probably 8 or 9. Snakes on the other hand are still a little creepy..

I don't really like Harry Potter. I mean the first 2 movies were fine, but then it became gritty and stuff after that and I kinda lost interest. I would rather prefer Lord of the Rings with Gandalf as a wizard, I believe wizard came from the persian word magus. But wiccans say wizard is just fictional though. I'll take their word for it.

Saw the title and totally have to share my personal "Witchcraft isn't like Harry Potter" story with you. :D

Once I tried to find some like-minded people in these parts where I live.
I quickly found a regulars table for 'people being interested in witchcraft' and registered for the next meet up.
The meeting took place in a bar, they booked some tables and put them together. I think we were ~ 26 people.

First it was a simple meet and greet and was very nice. After an hour or so the guy who organized the meet up started to make a speech for the interested ones. He was referring about magical tools when a woman asked if she can use a saucepan with sand to burn incense because her husband wouldn't know about her magical life. He laughed at her and told we must use special vessels. But then he raised up a magical wand. He told a nice story about it. That he was given this special wand by his grandmother and so on.

To be honest, I liked Harry Potter as a movie.
I like a lot of movies and I am nerdy enough to buy several merch and fan objects.
So I waited until he finished his beautiful magical story, raised my hand and asked
"And why do you use Snape's wand from Harry Potter?"

He got angry and said it wouldn'T be from Harry Potter.
I just turned my head round and pulled the same stick out of my hair, because I have bought this one some days ago for my hair buns.

Took my stuff and left with some others.

Snape's wand, and many others, can be purchased at Universal Studios theme park. All the wands they sell are keyed to various interactive displays. It's fun for the kids to make things happen with their wands.

I have mine from Elbenwald (Germany). :D Nice for the kids but useful as a witchy hairstick for me as well.

I'm a big HP fan, too. Read all the books and saw all the movies.
It seems that some people get into witchcraft expecting to learn how to levitate things and create all kinds of special effects, and when they realize that's not what (usually) happens in circle they are disillusioned. What they are missing, however, is that magick is inherently very subtle. Yes, it does work, but in quieter ways than in the movies. To the careful observer magick is EVERYWHERE. That's why we follow a nature based path. The witch can walk outside, smile at the plants growing in her garden and they will wink back at her. She can carry on a conversation with the crows and call to the clouds to bring rain. And when she lights a candle for healing or success, the energy often goes out and manifests in some pretty amazing and miraculous ways. To me that's as good as Harry Potter any day. No theatrics, just results! [WINKING FACE]

Bright Blessings,

I'm new to this forum and only recently began to look deeper into witchcraft. I have to say I've always felt drawn to it. I know Harry Potter is only a fictional story but it really fueled my interest in magic and I finally want to learn more about it :-)

Harry Potter is a good series, and it does have some elements of truth to it. Especially the part about working for what you want.

I love Harry Potter as a series, but most of the spells don't resemble anything like the witchcraft that I practice. The only part that actually does kind of seem more similar, though, is the Patronus charm -- the level of visualization, focus, and emotional aspects of the spell is much closer to what I know. I've actually adapted the Patronus charm for a bit of pop culture magic. You won't see anything coming out of the end of your wand, but the idea of summoning your happiest memory in order to banish depression (while perhaps envisioning an animal symbol that is meaningful to you) is actually fairly sound.

I went to the Harry Potter Studios tour and saw all the amazing sets and equipment. We went at Yule and they had all the Trees up in the Great Hall. It was really something. Then there is Diagon Alley which is incredible. The problem is that as a Witch it leaves you feeling sad that life isn't like that. A lot of the items on set are old. They are proper cauldrons with rust and dents and tonnes of pots, pans, old glass bottle, parchment, and quills etc. The books are old, really thick and bound with love. There is so much you could take home from that like to thrift and value older items. Not everything has to be brand new and brought online from some Pagan shop.

The magick is well and truly killed when you leave the tour and end up in the gift shop though. Commercialism at its best, and worst. Screaming children with chocolate frogs and £60 wands running riot. Not good.

I practise and develop my psychic abilities and you always get the 'I've been to a medium who has told me I'm a natural born psychic, I'm so scared of my power and skills'. ARGH! major eye rolling. Some people do naturally seem able in some areas, but rare (non-existent) is the person who is good at it all. Everyone has ability, its whether you choice to use it and practise or not.
My soul is awakened, my spirit is soaring. And carried aloft on the wings of the breeze. For above and around me the wild wind is roaring. Arousing to rapture the earth and the seas.
