Bats and their Symbolic Meanings

So I just had a bat in my house. I opened the door and after about 10 minutes it flew out. The only problem is- there was no possible way for it to have gotten in. Just previous to this, I was sitting here thinking and I was getting agitated because I was thinking about my past. When I looked up bat symbolic meanings, it said "Guardian of the Night, Cleaner" Any ideas on a divinatory meaning? Was I "sent" a bat to cleanse the negative energy from my thoughts?
