Athame from a Eucalypt

I have been considering carving my own athame for some time now, and would really like to do so from a fallen branch of a giant gum tree in my garden.

I know eucalypts are known for their healing qualities - what do you think of using the wood from one to use as a magickal/ritual tool?

I am also considering carving a "matching" wand.
