One of my favs by
Miss Emily Dickinson

IF I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

Emily Dickinson.....177

Post by Dancing_Moon_Child »

177

I died for Beauty-but was scarce
Adjusted in the Tomb
When One who died for Truth, was lain
In an adjoining Room-

He questioned softly "Why I failed"?
"For Beauty", I replied-
"And I- for Truth-Themself are One-
"We Brethern, are," He said-

And so, as Kinsmen, met a Night-
We talked between the Rooms-
Until the Moss had reached our lips-
And covered up-our names-

Emily Dickinson

The collections of poems I have, have no names....just numbers, which is all the more intriguing to me.

This poem reduced me to tears the first time I read it.

Peace and Love,
Dancing Moon Child

I love Robert Frost. So as tribute to his wonderful works, I am posting one of his poems here. This is one of my many favorites!! Hope you enjoy!

Marie

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Linda Goodman as ya'll prob Know is my fav Astrologer.. but befor she did any astrology works she published a pomes book, it's called Venus Trins @ Midnight... there is alot of kewll pomes in it but this is my Fav.... and is so so true...........

Scorpio Silence is Golden

We'll never have enough of touching after waiting so long to do and to be what we want to each other....

See how close we Lie, in the slow, naked warmth
of our first morning of waking together
while our hands and our lips lazily pratice
the intimate secerets they learned
in last nights sudden and violent surrender.....

Even our toes
explore this strange country of total love
even our noses
the smell of your skin and your hair
is you , just you
so familiar
I would Know you by that alone as surely
as I would Know the sent of the woods we walked
from pine incense
or sherry from scotch

how quiet it is between us
our sleeply, sunrise kisses are not enough.
now the strong circle of your arms tightens around me
and I feel your need
till our new hunger is as fierce and as deep as before
then you ask silently___ again

I like this language
it is so honest
and simple
and pure

We've spoken it with our eyes since the beginning........................
KNOW it NOW and you have WON...

Thank you for that Marie. I think sometimes we need to stop and go back and just read wonderful heartwrenching poetry like this. I love the classics. One of my prize possesions is a book of poetry by Emily Dickinson.
I also love to read the poetry of Maya Angelou. Her poetry is conceivably more modern but with the pain of 300 yrs of suffering underlying it. My favorite is Phenomenal Woman.
Keep sharing Marie. You're doing us all a huge service.
Peace and Love,
Dancing Moon Child

Dancing Moon Child Wrote this in the Robert Frost post, and since both of the poems we posted there are now here. I am deleting that post. However, I really appreciated her "Thanks" so I wanted to post it here before deleting that post!! Again, Thank you Dancing!!

The Journey
by Mary Oliver

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice--
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do--
determined to save
the only life you could save.

Mary Oliver is a Pulitzer Prize winning Poet whos' works never fail to amaze me.
Enjoy,

Phenomenal Woman
Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I can do this all day.....my computer notepad is full of my favorites.
I've often wished that Maya Angelou was my "mother". I get such a sense of nourishment when I hear her speak.

"Still I Rise"
Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

i know this is a masters of poetry thing, and some people may not agree but i think shel silverstein deserves to be in this selection, just because i love the way he uses words here are a few of my favorites is....

Band-Aids
I have a Band-Aid on my finger,
One on my knee and one on my nose,
One on my heel and two on my shoulder,
Three on my elbow and nine on my toes.
Two on my wrist and one on my ankle,
One on my chin and one on my thigh,
Four on my belly and five on my bottom,
One on my forehead and one on my eye.
One on my neck and jin case I might need 'em
I have a box full of thirty five more.
But oh! I do think it's sort of a pity
I don't have a cut or a sore!

Listen to the mustn’ts

Listen to the MUSTN'TS, child,
Listen to the DON'TS
Listen to the SHOULDN'TS,
the IMPOSSIBLES, the WON'TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES,
Then listen close to me-
Anything can happen, child,
Anything can be.

Forgotten Language

Once I spoke the language of the flowers,
Once I understood each word the caterpillar said,
Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings,
And shared a conversation with the housefly in my bed.
Once I heard and answered all the questions of the crickets,
And joined the crying of each falling dying flake of snow,
Once I spoke the language of the flowers....
How did it go?
How did it go?

The Generals

Said General Clay to General Gore
"Really must we fight this sill war
To kill and die is such a bore"
"I quite agree," said General Gore
Said General Gore to General Clay,
"We could go to the beach today
And have some ice cream on the way".
"A grand idea", said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore,
"We'll build sand castles on the shore".
Said General Gore, "We'll splash and play".
"Let's leave right now", said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay,
"But what if the sea is closed today
And what if the sand's been blown away?"
"A dreadful thought", said General Clay.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
I've always feared the ocean's spray.
And we may drown." "It's true we may.
It chills my blood", said General Clay.
Said General Clay to General Gore,
"My bathing suit is slightly tore.
We better go on with our war."
"I quite agree", said General Gore
Then General Clay charged General Gore
As bullets flew and cannons roared.
And now, alas, there is no more
Of General Clay or General Gore.

Thanks, Not sure is what should of gone here but....

Here is another one from Linda Goodman..

Cancerian Cry
(cancer cares)

Those newspaper jokes
telling us how to celebrate
the national promotion campaigns
are getting pretty hairy

" It's National Pickle Week
take someone sour to lunch"

" It's National Agriculture Week
make out with a farmers's daughter"

" It's National Lamp Week
get lit up with your favorite lush"

" It's National Public Zoo Week
do the orangutang tango with an ape"

How about " National Emptiness Week?"
resuce the lonly
there everywhere
walking in and out of bars
with robot eyes that won't shut
till the street cleaners wash the city's dirty face at dawn

They sit around in all -night coffee shops
blinking in the purple -white neon light
dropping dimes into a slot to dile a number that never answers

They stare at the deserted streets
from velvet-covered windows in penthouse prisons
and nurse a glass of lukewarm champagne, with no fizz
listening to the flashbacks of tired memory
stamped in the grooves of a record

Help the Lonly celebrate
as they ride the subways
reading newspapers upside down
or stand in Nathan's
squeezing a plastic mustard container over a hotdog

It's National Emptiness Week

be kind to us........................
KNOW it NOW and you have WON...
