Healing Disorders vs Illness

Post by Moonlit Orchid »

Is there any difference in how you approach healing someone with a disorder as compared to just an illness? -Something that my be in the persons genetic code vs an attack on the body from a virus. Way back in my church going days they said disorders were 'generational curses' and different than illness. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Well Moonlit Orchid the answer to the question you're asking is pretty complicated due to medical semantics.

A disorder is really defined as a physical malfunction of the body. This encompasses really anything that can go wrong with your body from a fever to a head injury. The term can also be applied to mental dysfunction as well like OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). A genetic disorder as you referenced would fall under the umbrella of the term "disorder" but not all disorders are genetic. (Sort of how every duck is a bird but not every bird is a duck :) )

An Illness is another broad catch all term used to describe physical sickness from a variety of causes (which may included genetic).

You reference a viral infections as an example as an illness so can I assume that the question you're trying to ask has more to do with differences in treating an infectious diseases (like pneumonia) versus genetic diseases (like huntingtons)?

If not I deeply apologize. Just trying to understand what it is you're looking to know :)

I have a child that is bipolar and one that may be autistic. I was wondering if the approach to heal is the same as for sickness. Or, due to the nature of these disorders, would another approach be better. This is all very new to me and I'm just beginning to learn. I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Im still not entirely sure what you're asking, but it sounds like you want general information on treatments and treatment options. Though Im a healthcare worker autisim and bipolar disorder are not conditions which I feel comfortable enough with to discuss treatment strategies about. Even if I was an expert I wouldnt be telling you things online via a forum where information might get miscommunicated.

I strongly recommend that if you want more information you should have this discussion with your children's physician. They will be able to better explain treatment options available and ones which your children may qualify for. They will also better direct you to resources where you can find information on your own.

If you have had a discussion with the physician and or you're looking for general information I recommend the website http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/. Medline plus is a website run by the National Institute of Health that provides information on various diseases written and explained for normal people (not in alien doctor speak). They will also be able to direct you to credible national organisations like the Autism Society, which can provide you with even more information and support groups. This is resource not a substitute for a conversation with a doctor, but it is a better resource than random strangers on a wiccan forum. :)

That being said...

The philosopher Neitzsche said that subconsciously we only ask advice of the people we know will give us the answer we want.

I get the feeling the heart of your question may have been looking for responses with information on alternative (non-western medicine) treatments. Im all about the alternative medicine treatments so long as they dont do harm, and are not a substitute for a proven beneficial treatment. I think if you wish to pursue alternative therapies, you definately need to have that conversation with the doctor as well. Any good physician will be open to non-western medicine strategies so long as they meet the criteria I mentioned above, (doing no harm...not preventing effective treatment...)

Anyways I'm done rambling. I'm sorry I couldn't give you a nice neat answer in a bow. Hope you get the answers you're looking for.

H_Prynne is rather spot on. Healing here should be a combination of Western medicine and alternative.

But to get back to your original question about approaches to healing - it all depends on your end point. Cure vs. treatment. I know magic can do some amazing things - but I think the realistic approach is that its unlikely to CURE autism and bipolar disease. Unlike an infection or some other shorter lived illness that might be healed an go away, these are things likely to stay with the kiddo for their life. So my approach would be different as the focus for me would be increase the positive energy around the kid, work towards less stress, more good days than bad. Work towards functionality in a group dynamic. These are more feasible and obtainable outcomes. This is obviously customized based on the type of autism - which has more flavors than a decent ice cream shop.

So yes the type of healing would be different in my opinion as what you invision as being the end goal may be to improve the kids overall quality of life - coping skills etc. Cure maybe a bit of a stretch. Miracles happen everyday - and I am not saying don't hope for that.

To echo H_Prynne's wise words - this should be SECOND after the child has been seen and evaluated by a good qualified physician.

Anyone want to comment who has more experience actually doing magical healing. I am well versed in medicine but still green in the magical arts.

Thank you both. I was inquiring about healing because I have exhausted all attempts (with my oldest child) with doctors, specialist, multiple medications, etc. The youngest child I've just begun with all of the doctors 6 mos ago. I did perform a very simple healing spell for my youngest child who is showing signs of autism. Since I did that he has shown improvement. He was only saying about one sentence every day or two. He's up to 3-6 sentences per day and is making eye contact. Strangely, my oldest child with bipolar has not shown any significant signs of the disorder since I prayed for his brother. His symptoms have been mild and very manageable. I was planning on doing a separate spell for him another day but I don't need to. I have also been cleansing the house of negative energies as well. Thank you for the tip on increasing positive energies to help with a better quality of life. That's great advice. I will continue to do that. This is all very new to me. I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thank you both for your help.
