Moon Book

Post by SpiritTalker »

I like to tackle a project a year (or so) & over a few years I’ve made up personal booklets on my research on each of the elements, just my spells, seasonal rituals, just salt & I’m just sittin’ here musing with my amusing Muse on making a Moon Book. It was prompted when I looked up the moon phase on the day I was born & news of the day. I hadn’t thought of just studying the Moon & 2019 was the 50th anniversary of the first (public) lunar landing.

What you’d need
. Any size notebook, journal, etc.
. Colored gel pens - especially silver, various blues, and black
. Drawing templates with circles and crescents, straight edge; or trace around assorted sized coins
. Any drawing items or rubber stamps associated with the moon ... frogs?
. Sticky notes
. Lotsa researching

You could research different Moon goddesses & gods
. Note their special dates, unique and shared powers, symbols, culture
. Research customs associated with the moon and taboos

Maybe divide the book with sticky notes into sections for each phase
. Phases - waxing crescent, 1st 1/2, waxing gibbous, Full Moon, waning gibbous, 2nd 1/2, waning crescent, New Moon
. Write a ritual & a few spells for each phase
. Note myths and special powers associated with crescent, full & dark moons
. Moon gardening planting & harvesting by phases
. Best phases for household tasks, banishing spirits or pests, attracting desires
. Special effects - lunar eclipses, magical associations & calendar; solar eclipses, magical associations & calendar
. Seasonal visible changes & effects in the Moons appearance at your longitude
. Personal data on zodiac moon phase at birth, and news of the day

What are some more ideas?

. Oh yea, just buy a Moonology book from Llewellyn

I like this, Perhaps in this section record the weather and draw a picture of how the moon appeared to you the day you were observing this. This exercise works best if you look for the moon at about the same time every day. From the same location. This way you really get a sense of her waxing and waning. Time of day and the degrees from the horizon are important. Do this for a year you will be amazed, then try it for 19 years and you will see how many places in the sky she like to go!
Another one is to observe the moon when she is full coming up on the horizon. Do that for a year and you will see that it is in different places. Mark it down with a drawing of the horizon. Or photo for those who say they can't draw (but really, everyone can draw!)
So cool Spirit, thanks for sharing this idea.

I remember one time hiking in to the hill, about ten years ago now, the moon was coming up so far left on the horizon it appeared as though it was north. As it rose it felt erily uncomfortable like it was in the wrong spot.

A loose leaf notebook woks best for me, as many times as I've tried to do a hard cover, I find I needed to add a page. Problem with loose leaf though, is the 3 holes tend to wear out! So you will need those stick on hole protectors. (That sounds weird! LoL)
