Ogham runes

Ogham runes are old irish alphabet used to carve into the stones. It's very simple to learn it and it goes like this:

Here is pronaunciation of some letters:

Right side/downward strokes
B beith (*betwi-s)
L luis [l] (*lubsti-)
F fearn [w] (*wernā)
S saille [s] (*salik-s)
N nuin [n]

Left side/upward strokes
H úath [j] (*osato-)
D duir [d] (*darek-s)
T tinne [t]
C coll [k] (*koslas)
Q ceirt [kʷ] (*kʷer[x]tā)

Across/pendicular strokes
M muin [m]
G gort [ɡ] (*gorto-s)
NG gétal [ɡʷ] (*gʷēdtlo-)
Z straif [sw] or [ts]?
R ruis [r] (*rudsti-)

notches (vowels)

O onn [o] (*osno-)

I just read up on this today... And it said that a lot was also mostly carved into wood and metal...very interesting to read
