hand carved tools vs store bought items

Post by ravensilverbear »

I want to pose a question to all I have a white oak in my yard and it has dropped some really nice branches I have started to carve one and it has come to be a a small double sided knife (athme) it looks really good and it has me drawn to it as I want to be all natural in my alter and only my chalice is metal is it right or wrong I will take pictures to post of it as soon as I can I know that if it is please to me it will be pleasing to the Lord and Lady but still I would like to know

That's so cool! I hope you get a chance to post pictures!

If your hand-carved athame feels right to you, then it belongs on your altar I think. Whether you purchase the items you place on it, or if you craft them all yourself, is less important than their significance to you. The gods, and the energies you work with, are very aware of your intentions, needs, and desires, and I believe that we work our best magic when we're comfortable. So, if you only want natural items on your altar, and that's what feels good to you, then it's right for you. Just like no two witches are going to approach spellcraft in the same way, their altars will also likely be vastly different. But, that doesn't make either one of them wrong. An altar, to me, is an outward expression of the inner you, and your devotion to your craft, your gods, and your spirituality. :)

Well said.
Always practice what's in your heart. Trust your insticts. It sounds like it will be a very powerful Athame, I look forward to the pictures.

I have a wand that I carved from a regular old tree branch. It's just until I can afford a real wand but it works! I say, if it feels right, go for it!

The Lord and Lady exist within all of us. What pleases us, pleases Them, as They are us and we are Them. If you are unsure, look to Them inside of yourself. You can't go wrong with a loving intent.

Some people actually prefer/recommend handmade items because of the love and effort that goes into crafting them. You're more likely to feel a bond with your tools if you handcrafted them and therefore know their story. This bind might even help you focus or channel your energy.

I heartily encourage folks to make their own tools for magick and energy work! Yes, it's best to familiarize yourself thoroughly with any materials you plan to use, know why and how they're used for what specifically, but having that knowledge is a great way to deepen the connection with the materials (such as herbs, woods, stones, crystals, candles, oils, etc.) and help promote your focus while using them.

And raven, yes I want to see them! Looking forward to seeing pics, and anything you get from it!!! How exciting!!

You can change a pictures size with the paint program on the computer.
