Sad anniversary

Post by Firebird »

I miss my Father terribly, today he will have been off the physical planet 7 years. It seems so long, yet it seems like yesterday. He had Alzheimers, a really bad way to go, and crushing to the living family members, especially for my Mom, they were best friends. I don't think she will ever want to be with another person, Dad was her guy. He would have been 86. Sometimes I wonder why the most brilliant people get this disease, it was very hard watching this man slowly forget everyone.
I still cherish the times we spent camping, fishing, hiking, flying, boating, taking photos, weekend trips. He taught me to make a "one match fire" ...among a zillion other things in the natural world. He was my catalyst to being a nature lover.
I'm trying not to spin down the hole of mourning, but I want to hug him so bad.
I would post a pic if I could figure it out :(
Thanks for listening,
Firebird

I understand the feeling. It was thirty-seven years ago on Candlemas that my dad journeyed to the Nightland. He would have been 99 last month. Gone, but not forgotten.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Firebird. He sounds like a wonderful man and loving father. Alzheimer's is such a devastating disease, not just for the patient, but for the entire family. It's so sad.

I moved your thread to the new "In Memory Of..." forum (a subforum under Life, Death, and Love). I hope that's alright.

Blessed be,
Star

Today was Dads birthday, the 17th (well maybe it's the 18th by now) and a full Moon, I have been getting many of those nondescript messages, like the planes flew over today (some VNY pilots fly vintage planes usually every Wednesday, but they went flying today and the day before)
my Dad helped found the Estrella Warbird Museum, I spend a lot of time in airports when I was growing up so the sound of these planes are in my blood... Happy Birthday Dad

I am sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is never easy, I lost my mom 4 years ago to heart disease and my father has never been the same. It never gets easier especially around the holidays. But they always have their own way of showing you that they are still around. My mom knows my special connection to seagulls and sends them often. You dad sounds like an amazing man, it is defiantly a sign from him, since you both have a strong connection to planes. I wish your family the best and lots of strength.

It's been 10 years today since you took that blue road journey.
It was rainy like today.
